Rules Q&A
- Q: Scenario B:
I use the Ring of Earth ability on a Samurai as before, use Someisa Sensei (and a Monk) to unbow the Ring, use it again on another Samurai. I attack with both. My opponent blocks with one unit, and sacks it to play Overwhelmed. Can I choose to send two units home? If I choose that, must they go home or does the Ring prevent that?
A: You can not choose that option in the decision. You know the attempts to send them home will fail, so you can not choose to make such an attempt if another option of the choice could be completed without failing.
"If a card effect forces you to make a decision, you may not choose an option that is known in advance will fail. You may, however, immediately respond with a voluntary effect that negates or cancels the action or effect you chose. [Summary of other rulings]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Decisions") Martin Lund, "Rules for 18 November 2004", 22 Nov 2004 - Q: During battle Can a monk personality not in a battle bow to unbow a ring?
A: No. Martin Lund, "Rules for 16 November 2004", 19 Nov 2004 - Q: My opponent is playing with Someisa Sensei, I show of good faith one of his monk personalities... I play gempukku on the monk and give him the SHUGENJA trait, what happens with the personality at the end of the turn?
A: The Personality stays put until it is legal for him to go elsewhere - say Someisa Sensei stops working, the Personality stops being a Shugenja, or a third party hits him with Kolat Master. Martin Lund, "Rules for 27 September", 29 Sep 2004 - Q: My opponent is playing "Someisa Sensei". I "Show of Good Faith" one of his Monks. I then Gempukku the Monk and give him/her the Shugenja Trait. What happens at the end of my turn? I can't keep the personality per Show of Good Faith's card text, but the personality cannot return to its owner because Shugenja will not join him due to Someisa Sensei's card text.
A: You are stuck with the Shugenja-Monk until such time as you can legally return it to that player. Until then, you still can't declare any attacks or move that Personality's attached cards or tokens. Martin Lund, "Rules for 22 September 2004", 25 Sep 2004 - Q: The card in question:
Someisa Sensei Open: Once per turn, bow one of your Monk Personalities that had not cast a Kiho this turn to straighten a Ring.
I could not, then, bow a Monk at home during a battle to straighten a Ring, correct?
A: Correct Martin Lund, "Rules for 19 and 20 September 2004", 24 Sep 2004
