Rules Q&A
- Q: Well... Let me remember. During a duel, when focusing during a duel, I give a stat bonus to my personnality at the time I focus.
For example : Duel of Personal Honor : with a 3ph peep : Focus 1 : Let your Spirit Guide You => +6ph Focus 2 : Let your Spirit Guide You (again) => +9ph
Right ?
Ok, then, I'm browsing the wrath previews (I'm thinking of my futur decks, yes sir, I do !) and I find this one card :
Shattered Focus This card remains in play in your home. While this card is in play, Personalities must focus at least once per duel if able. Reaction: After focus cards are revealed in a duel, discard this card: Discard one card focused by each Personality in the duel.
Ok, ok... so after focused are revealed, I can discard card that were focused during the duel (I focus on the second ability, the first one is cool ^_^). Ok, then, what is it expect to do ? It does nothing from how I read it. Am I wrong ?
A: You are wrong. It ends the bonus that card provided. Martin Lund, "Rules for 23 November 2004", 26 Nov 2004 - Q: Can i use the action on Oblivion's Gate to destroy a follower that is not in the battle i'm resolving? While in a battle can I bow Spirit Guide to unbow a shugenja in my fief?
A: No to both question. Neither will satisfy the Rule of Relavence since they do not come from a card or token in the battle, create a card or token in the battle, or directly affect a card or token in the battle or the battle itself.
Isawa's House Guard + Agasha Chieh xp. is very effective for casting Spells without being at the Battle at any other time.
Spirit Guide is not as effective at that trick and Oblivions Gate is powerless to stop the unbridled power of Chieh xp.'s Yamato Cannon (Chieh, House Guard, Celestial Sword, Kuro's Fire, Roll the closing credits). Martin Lund, "Rules for 9 April 2004", 11 Apr 2004 - Q: So something like Let the Spirit Guide you would be considered resolved whereas use of a Focus is not, correct?
A: Correct. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 14 October 2003", 14 Oct 2003 - Q: What's happening when I use Kakita Noritoshi (soul of Doji Jiro) reaction (double focus value of one card when revealed, you cannot double the focus of a card whose focus value has changed) with Let You Spirit Guide You (Focus value equals personal honor + 2).
Am I allowed to do that to get a focus value = 8 ?
A: No. Jiro's ability will not work on any focus card whose value in a duel is something other than what's printed in the little circle on the bottom of the card. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for June 11th - Part Two!", 12 Jun 2003 - Q: 2. Hamanari + Spirit Guide... If I have a SG attached to AH and I use AH's reaction to cancel an action card, then straighten him with SG, can I use his reaction again during the same turn? (each printed instance can only be used once per turn?)
Each printed Reaction can be used once per TRIGGER, not per turn. Hamanari can be used again on a different Action card.
I never noticed this. So this means if someone plays a Kolat Assassin and I cancel it with Hamanari, the next time its played Hamanari can't cancel it?
A: He can, even if it's the same card. It's a different playing, thus a different trigger.
This rule impacts Hamanari only if he has a way of using his ability without bowing and needs to use it twice on the exact same playing of the card. Jeff Alexander, "post for 25 March 2003", 26 Mar 2003 - Q: 2. Hamanari + Spirit Guide... If I have a SG attached to AH and I use AH's reaction to cancel an action card, then straighten him with SG, can I use his reaction again during the same turn? (each printed instance can only be used once per turn?)
A: Each printed Reaction can be used once per TRIGGER, not per turn. Hamanari can be used again on a different Action card. Jeff Alexander, "post for 24 March 2003", 25 Mar 2003 - Q: With Asoko Yuya, if you have a spell and Spirit Guide attached, can you choose to bow Yuya to cast the spell, then straidhten her, then bow the spell?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 April 2002", 9 Apr 2002 - Q: Let's say you have a shugenja with the spell Secrets on the Wind attached. The shugenja has a Spirit Guide also attached. You bow the shugenja to dishonor a personality. You then bow the Spirit Guide to straighten the shugenja. Can you then bow the shugenja again during the same turn, to cast Secrets on the Wind again?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 January 2002", 1 Feb 2002 - Q: If you discard a "Burning Your Essence" or a "Let The Spirit Guide You" to use "Know The Enemy", is the focus value 0 or the modified focus?
A: 0 for Burning Your Essence, modified for Let Your Spirit Guide You. LYSGY gives the higher value for any use of the Tactician trait, whereas BYE is only a 6 when used for a Tactician Force bonus (or an ability printed or copied onto the Personality card).
