Rules Q&A
- Q: 2. Last I heard, "winning a battle" changed meanings (per Standard Bearers) does this mean I can get free Rats off Skirt even if I don't destroy a Province or enemy units?
A: Yes. All you have to do is have an army with greater a Force total than the enemy army's, which would be 0 if empty. Brook Cunningham, "Yodin Sensei vs. Skirt the Edge", 27 Aug 2008 - Q: a) could Soshi Tishi negate gain from Vigiliance Keep? I assume yes - althouth it isn't stated on card, text implies that honor gain happens in Resolution Segment.
A: Yes, you can; no assumptions necessary. The trigger for Vigiliance Keep's trait is "After you destroy a Province as the Attacker". That always only happens in the Resolution Segment of a battle. Brook Cunningham, "Soshi Tishi xp, Standard Bearers, Vigiliance Keep", 27 Jul 2008 - Q: b) could Soshi Tishi negate gain from Standard Bearers? "After resoultion segment ends" - this could be still during or just after the battle...
A: It's still during, so he could negate the Standard Bearers gain. The battle doesn't end until three steps after the Resolution Segment ends:
http://rules.l5r.com/Battles#Final_Steps: "Once a battle’s Resolution Segment ends... follow steps A through C in order...
C. The battle ends." Brook Cunningham, "Soshi Tishi xp, Standard Bearers, Vigiliance Keep", 27 Jul 2008 - Q: After a Resolution Segment ends, if this card was in the winning army, and was opposed at any time during that battle: Gain 3 Honor.
A: Emphasis mine; if the Standard Bearers were never opposed at any time during the battle their army wins, then their trait does not trigger. Brook Cunningham, "Standard Bearers", 16 Mar 2008 - Q: In reference to: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=65614&p=843330&hilit=standard+bearers#p843330
Let me put the question another way. Isend a 10 force unit containing Standard Bearers to province A. My opponent defends with his personality at province A. I resolve the battle at province B first. During the battle, I move my unit containing tsandard bearers from province A to province B. My opponent passes, and I destroy the province. As the unit was opposed at province A, during the battle, would I gain the 3 honor from Standard Bearers?
Standard Bearers text: After a Resolution Segment ends, if this card was in the winning army, and was opposed at any time during that battle: Gain 3 Honor.
A: Yes, you gain the Honor. The clauses about being in the winning army and being opposed are independent of one another. You don't technically need to be opposed while in the winning army. "During battle," refers to a duration of time, not to a location. You are opposed even while at a battlefield whose Battle is not currently resolving (or even whose Battle has already resolved). Martin Lund, "standard bearers and lions strength", 27 Feb 2008 - Q: When is Standard Bearers legal to play? Someone hasn't updated the legal promos in a while on the rules page.
--Jed
A: If something released isn't on the list, it will be legal to play when the next set rotates into legality, as has been the practice for many years.
The list of legal promo cards was updated less than two weeks ago.
