- Erratum: Reads, "A Samurai's Fury 0G 1FV Reaction: After resolving Delayed Terrains (if any), target a Samurai you control at the current battlefield with more than 2 Chi: Take an Open or Battle action." [MRP, Lotus Edition, 31 October 2005] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 31
- If used to take a terrain-replacing action (e.g., Go Master), the new terrain will not resolve since the time for terrain resolution has passed. [RD, email, 31 May 1997] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 31
- It counts as playing a terrain for that battle, however. [FAQ 3.5] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 31
- If you take an action that gives you extra actions (e.g., Mushin), you get those too. [26 May 1999] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 31
- May not be used after Deadly Ground/Night Battle, even to take a terrain-destroying action. The extra action's effect is not part of A Samurai's Fury's effect, and Deadly Ground/Night Battle prohibit all actions during the battle, including Reactions. [DW, l5rinfo, 5/26/97] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 51
- May only be played after a terrain which resolves at the end of the battle. [FAQ] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 51
- It does still count as playing a terrain for that battle, though. [FAQ 3.5] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 51
- Q: Another terrain question, this time with A Samurai's Fury, which lets me take one action between resolving the terrain and resolving the battle. Can I use it to play a second terrain? If I can, does it take effect too? A: Terrains stay in play until the end of the battle, so you can't play a new one straight from your hand. You could use something like the Go Master to destroy the old terrain and play your new one at the same time, but the new terrain still won't generate its effects since the time for terrain resolution has passed. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 9
- Q: Let me mix those two questions now! Can I play A Samurai's Fury after Deadly Ground? A: No, for two reasons. The first is that A Samurai's Fury can only be used if there is a terrain in play that resolves at the end of the battle, but Deadly Ground goes into effect right away and doesn't wait until the end. The second is that Deadly Ground prohibits a// actions for that battle except actions that would destroy it, from the time the terrain is played up to -- and including -- the destruction of cards on the losing side. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 9
Rules Q&A
- Q: I attack my opponent's provinces with Shinjo Shono exp 2. I play Bloodied Ground. We play fate cards as per Bloodied Ground's ability. I play A Samurai's Fury, and move Shono to the next province. Do my fate values travel with Shono, or remain in the original battle?
A: Original battle. This ruling leads to less confusing situations if there are multiple units in an army and one moves. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 20 August 2003", 20 Aug 2003 - Q: I was wondering what would happen if i played A Samurai's Fury after delayed terrain resolves, ane then played Blacekend Sky.
A: From the Rules Archive (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings/#Action_cards): "If you take an action that gives you extra actions (e.g., Mushin), you get those too." Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 7 July 2003", 8 Jul 2003 - Q: I have a quick question about A Samurai's Fury. A Samurai's Fury says, "Reaction: Play this card after a Delayed Terrain resolves. Take an Open or Battle action."
Honor's Lesson Dojo says, "Unique. Reaction: Bow after all players pass consecutively in a battle and before delayed terrains resolve to perform one Battle or Open action."
Now, it looks to me like A Samurai's Fury and Honor's Lesson Dojo were intended to work pretty much the same as each other. My question is, do they?
A: They're similar but not identical. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 July 2002", 2 Jul 2002 - Q: Specifically, can you play A Samurai's Fury when a Delayed Terrain would resolve or does there have to be an actual physical Delayed Terrain card (or Mystical Terrain, etc) in play for this battle to play A Samurai's Fury?
A: There must be an actual Delayed Terrain resolving for A Samurai's Fury to be legal. The same is NOT true for Honor's Lesson Dojo. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 July 2002", 2 Jul 2002 - Q: Does a terrain card nullified by Advance Scout or the Ancient Halls stronghold still technically resolve, without effect? In other words, would it be possible to play A Samurai's Fury in response to the resolution of a nullified Delayed Terrain?
A: Yes and yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 March 2002", 6 Mar 2002 - Q: A Samurai's Fury - If it used to take a Terrain replacing action, and the Terrain used is an IMMEDIATE Terrain, will the effect of new Terrain take place?
A: Assuming that the one action you get from Samurai's Fury both destroys the terrain in play *and* plays a new one, yes, an Immediate Terrain will resolve at the point it is played. A Delayed terrain will still just sit there and do nothing. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 14th", 14 Aug 2001 - Q: [@MacBeth2001 and rules team: wanted to thank you again for all the prompt replies to my various Legacy rules questions since the Oracle came out. You rock.]
The original timing point for A Samurai's Fury was "after delayed terrains resolve", which was after the old "Battle Action" segment of a battle. In Oracle text has been rendered to "before this battle's resolution".
Given the battle sequence EE "cleanup", nothing exists (as I understand it) between the Combat segment and the Resolution segment, meaning that anything "before this battle's resolution" still happens during the Combat segment (or does it?)
Ergo, A Samurai's Fury now happens still during the Combat segment, and Fall on Your Knees is now able to negate it (which it couldn't before - that I'm pretty sure about).
Is this correct? [hopefully not. I always loved ASF. ]
A: No, the above is not correct.
Triggers:
"A trigger of "after" one step in a sequence ends will happen prior to the trigger of "before" the next step begins. Both triggers happen between the two steps. Example: A triggered trait with the trigger "after your Dynasty Phase ends" comes before a triggered trait with the trigger "before your End Phase begins,” and happens in neither phase." Brook Cunningham, "Fall on Your Knees vs. A Samurai's Fury", 19 Sep 2012 - Q: [OBH] A Samurai's Fury - After playing A Samurai's Fury - I equipped an attachment using the Mantis stronghold - Eastern Hub Port, can I still take an anditional Battle Action? Same with Superior Strategist and / or any Battle Action that provides additional Battle action like Formations
A: Yes, if the additional Battle action that A Samurai's Fury gives you then gives you more such additional actions (Mushin, anyone? 😉 ), you may take those too. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 22 Jun 2026
