Rules Q&A
- Q: I have a few questions on how Moto Gaheris and Storms of War interact with action card that are played as focuses when in a duel. when Gaheris is in the current battle can the other player play the above mentioned reactions during a duel against another one of my personalities?
A: No. Reactions are actions (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 47). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 25 August 2003", 25 Aug 2003 - Q: when using a card that is played as a focus during Storms of War do the have to bow a follower or personality to play the card?
A: Yes. Reactions are actions (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 47). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 25 August 2003", 25 Aug 2003 - Q: Does bowing a personality to pay the cost of playing an action for Storms of War occur before or after targeting for that action?
A: Before. Bowing a Personality or Follower for Storms must be done "before the action is begun", which would be upon announcement. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for June 11th - Part Two!", 12 Jun 2003 - Q: Can you bow oposing cards with Storms of War?
A: No. Only your own. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 October 2002", 12 Oct 2002 - Q: d) Does this ruling also apply to Storms of War?
A: Storms of War will work much the same way as Hunting Tiger: only one bowing is required per action. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 June 2002", 12 Jun 2002 - Q: Nope. ToC doesn't target targeted actions. It just says that if an action is sending you home it get's canceled.
I don't think it will work, because I don't think terrain resolution effects count as an action.
Sure they do. Terrains are Action cards, and they resolve. Delayed Terrains don't resolve right when they're played, but that's the only wrinkle.
Well, in that case, let me state the specific case I was referring to, just to make sure I understand correctly. If I attack, and the defender plays Fortified Ground with two fortifications, and then I play Storms of War. Terrain resolution occurs. What happens? a) The defender can send home two units without bowing anyone. b) The defender must bow a unit for each unit sent home.
A: Bad example. Storms of War's bowing kicks in when the action is "peformed", not when it resolves. The Defender would not have to bow anyone since he played Fortified Ground before Storms went into effect.
Hypothetically, though, IF Storms of War applied when actions resolved instead of when they're performed, the answer would be
c) The defender must bow one Personality or Follower to begin taking advantage of Fortified Ground's options, and could then send home any number of attackers without any further extra bowing.. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 February 2002", 8 Feb 2002 - Q: Hiruma Sensei -- which was made, specifically, to trump Storms of War (among other things) -- treats such effects as "additional costs."
A: By specific ruling, to cover an ambiguous case of card interaction. Not because the bowing is a cost.
Zen is right on this one. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 12-13 June", 16 Jun 2001
