Rules Q&A
- Q: Crane vs. Phoenix Strange Assembly is in effect.
Phoenix Player hits 40. Crane players turn. He hits 40. Phoenix player tributes. Crane ends his turn on "48", but because of tribute its really 6. Phoenix players turn, who wins? a) Phoenix cus its the start of his turn and he's got 40? b) Crane because he's 8 above the honor win and thats an auto win?
A: Effects that last "until" a given time end before effects that happen "at" that time. Tribute wears off first. Crane wins. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 9-10 March 2004", 11 Mar 2004 - Q: This is a rules question that struck us on IRC as funny.
If player A is at 48 Honor and at the beginning of his turn, player B is at 39 Honor; and his first three Dynasty Cards are revealed as Events, all of which gain him honor and push it exactly to 48, who wins in the case of Strange Assembly being flipped as the fourth event?
A: The active player decides who wins. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 18-19 Feb. 2004", 20 Feb 2004 - Q: This ruling: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=71050
seems a bit contradictory to me with this older one:

If Strange Assembly creates a new victory condition, it should bypass Shoju Sensei, or the other way around. Am I missing something?
Thanks.
A: Both rulings are correct.
Strange Assembly does create a new victory condition. Its second sentence then says, "This does not apply to players unable to achieve an Honor Victory." So, at any time that you are prevented from achieving an Honor Victory, you are also prevented from achieving Strange Assembly's victory condition by its own text. Brook Cunningham, "Strange Assembly + Norikazu Sensei", 27 Sep 2008 - Q: Does Strange Assembly create a new victory condition or does it just modify an existing one?
A: New condition. If it modified an Honor Victory, it would say something like, "A player wins an Honor Victory immediately if..." Zen Faulkes, "Strange Assembly + Norikazu Sensei", 27 Sep 2008 - Q: In regards to this thread http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=64935&p=834750&hilit=Strange+Assembly#p834750. Which of the two answers in correct? Zen said Strange Assembly would work, but MacBeth 2001 said it would not.

A: MacBeth2001 is correct. Strange Assembly does not let you win while Shoju Sensei is "active". Alex Jones, "Strange Assembly and Shoju Sensei", 17 Jun 2008 - Q: If my opponent has a Shoju Sensei in play. He also has a personality in play which he targeted using the sensei preventing me from winning an honor victory. I am not a shadowlands hordes or naga player. I start my turn at 48+ honor and revealed the event Strange Assembly. Will I win the game instantly or am i one of the "players unable to achieve an Honor Victory" as per Strange Assembly?
A: http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings, Shoju Sensei: "Does not remove an Honor Victory from any player." You win. Zen Faulkes, "Strange Assembly and Shoju Sensei", 18 Jan 2008 - Q: I looked in the achive and I couldn't find the rule. If Strange Assembly is in play and both players are at 48 + honour, who wins the game? I remember reading that the active player gets to decide the order(.)
A: That's it (Third Cardinal Rule). Zen Faulkes, "strange timing", 11 Apr 2005 - Q: Is a victory through Strange Assembly considered as an Honor-victory?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Strange Assembly", 11 Apr 2005
