Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Immediate Terrain. Battle: Other players' Personalities who moved into your army with an action gain +2F while at this battle. While Strategic Crossroad is in play, all players may take the action, "Battle: Move one of your units into this battle from any other location." [MRP, Wrath of the Emperor, 23 August 2004] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 34
- Action cannot be used during Ambush because it is not an action of the card; it is an action which is given to players. [JA, 20 February 2004] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 34
Rules Q&A
- Q: 3) If I play Strategic Crossroad, which personality gains the bonis: the personalities that were moved before the terrain was played or that were moved after the terrain or the two?
A: Strategic Crossroad's MRP says, "Immediate Terrain. Battle: Other players' Personalities who moved into your army with an action gain +2F while at this battle. While Strategic Crossroad is in play, all players may take the action, "Battle: Move one of your units into this battle from any other location." [MRP, Wrath of the Emperor, 23 August 2004]"
That +2F clause is a continuous effect of the Terrain. It applies to any card that qualifies as long as it is in play and still has the trait. It does not matter whether the Personalities moved in before or after the Terrain is played. Martin Lund, "Rules for 24 January 2005", 31 Jan 2005 - Q: 3. Just to clairfy, in an Ambush, I play Strategic Crossroad, as long as my personality is in the battle, I can use the ability of SC.
A: No, you can not. It does not fulfill Relevance, because you know it can not move a unit into the battle due
to Ambush's on-going effect. Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 May 2004", 16 May 2004 - Q: Okay... IF I cast heavens wrath while Where the Kami Walk and sent the Fire Shug and someone else home with two people opposing them, then bring the Shug back into battle using Stategic Crossroad would he beable to use Heavens Wrath again?
A: Where the Kami Walk says, "Your Shugenja at this battle need not bow to cast Spells or Kihos. No Spell may be cast more than once during this battle."
I think that would exclude him from using that copy of Heaven's Wrath again during that battle, anyway. Martin Lund, "Rules for 29 April 2004", 2 May 2004 - Q: "Quick snap" (hopefully) questions:
1 - does Strategic Crossroad work with Ring of Water or not? Intuitively it should but...
A: I do not know exactly what you mean by "work with", so I'm guessing here...
Using the Battle action on Strategic Crossroad counts towards the four Battle actions needed to play the Ring of Water. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 12 March 2004", 13 Mar 2004 - Q: I noticed that the Watch List has two more friends: Strategic Crossroad and Shrine to Benten. I won't say anything more on this subject except that if these two cards are errata'd, Crab will be even worse than it is now. Those are very important, key cards in Crab's box party archetype. So AEG, please consider us lowly crustaceans while pursuing your mad quest to curb the power of the Lion clan :)
A: The Watch List is not open to player suggestion. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 20 Feb. 2004", 21 Feb 2004 - Q: so as far as i remember OPT was established after DoTE.
reading along the Oracle we came across this card http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=7521
Strategic Crossroad Terrain Other players' Personalities who moved into your army with an action have +2F while at this battlefield. All players have the ability, "Battle: Target your unit: Move it to the current battlefield." Battle: If there are no Terrains at the current battlefield: Put this card into play there.
Legality Rain of Blood (Diamond)
comparing it to Accessible Terrain http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=108 The Attacker and Defender each have the ability, "Battle: Any number of times per turn, target your unbowed Personality: Move him to the current battlefield."
Questions: How many times can Strategic Crossroad be used? Let's say I have 1 unit in the battle and 5 bowed units at home. Can I use SCrossroad to move in all 5 units in, one at a time? If my opponent sends home one of the 5 units I moved in with SCrossroad, can I target it again and move the unit into the battle?
Thanks!
Bonus Question: I vaguely recall we should be posting Oracle text concerns at a different thread but i don't know where or if it even exists at all.
A: As currently worded in the Oracle, the ability granted by Strategic Crossroad is once per turn. If you believe the Oracle may be in error in this case, you want this thread here. Jon Palmer, "Strategic Crossroad", 2 Apr 2013 - Q: Let's say that my opponent reduces Tokaro's chi with Written in Blood and he dies. I now have no one on the boards. I declare a Raid battle, pay 2 gold, and play Ancient Battlefield. Does this work?
In my support:
In the case of Strategic Crossroad it was ruled that you couldn't because it would create an action that would create presence, but didn't in and of itself. In the case of Ancient Battlefield the terrain itself will create presence when it resolves.
A: See Archive, Ancient Battlefield. Zen Faulkes, "Ancient Battlefield + Presence/Relevence", 31 Mar 2005
