Rules Q&A
- Q: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=89212
Just to quickly mention that the original poster mentioned straightening with Superior Mobility, not using its battle action, which WOULD be fine as the straighten action on Sup Mob isn't performed: "Battle: Straighten your target unit.". Of course Zen's answer was right if he'd mentioned the sendhome ability
A: Stoopid cards with two actions.
Sigh. Thanks for the catch. Zen Faulkes, "Crippling Weather & Performing", 1 Mar 2011 - Q: If Crippling Weather is played by player A. Player B performs an action on his personality and is bowed. Can the bowed personality straighten with cards like Superior Mobility, Shattered Peaks Castle or are these actions considered targeting so the personality would straighten then bow again?
A: Crippling Weather cares about performing, not targeting. Superior Mobility's second action says, "Choose your performing unbowed Personality" (emphasis added), so the Personality would be affected by Crippling Weather.
Shattered Peaks Castle and Superior Mobility's first action targets, but for them to be performed, the targeting would have to have colons on either side (as the FAQ reminds; http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#What_performs_an_action.3F). It is not performed, and the Personality is not hit by Crippling Weather.
Targeting does relate to performing, but the test for whether a card targets is easy. http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Targeting: "The word 'target' must appear as a verb or an adjective for the procedure to be considered targeting -- just 'choosing' something is not targeting."
[Slightly changed to deal with multiple abilities on Superior Mobility.] Zen Faulkes, "Crippling Weather & Performing", 1 Mar 2011 - Q: I have a personality with expensive weapon on him. My opponent plays Superior Mobility. Now... what happens if we assume I have Muscle And Steel in my hand, and my opponent has Cowed By Wisdom.
1. I react with Muscle And Steel. Do I choose which effect I negate or do I negate the first one that happens? 2. If my opponent chooses not to react with Cowed By Wisdom. Do I negate the movement and then die ? 3. If my opponent chooses to react with Cowed By Wisdom. Will he negate movement and after that, I will negate dying?
Superior mobility TEXT : Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Personality and bow a card in his unit: Move a target enemy Personality home. If the movement fails, destroy him.
Muscle and Steel TEXT : Text Reaction: After another player's action targets one of your Personalities, bow one of his attachments with a base Gold Cost of 7 or more: Negate either the action's bowing, destruction, or movement of cards in his unit.
Cowed by Wisdom TEXT : Text Reaction: Before an action's resolution: Negate the action's movement of Personalities that are not yours from the current battlefield.
A: You must choose one of the three.
If you choose to negate the destruction, your opponent can decide not to play Cowed By Wisdom and your Personality will move home. If you choose to negate the movement, your opponent doesn't need to play Cowed By Wisdom and you Personality will be destroyed.
Best option? Play 2x Muscle and Steel... Alex Jones, "Superior Mobility + Cowed By Wisdom + Muscle And Steel", 28 Jan 2011 - Q: (I)f Blanketed Forest is in play and i play Superior Mobility(...), the movement fails and the personality is destroyed?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Superior Mobility + Blanketed Forest", 13 Oct 2010 - Q: if yes, Superior Mobility has destroyed the personality ?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Superior Mobility + Blanketed Forest", 13 Oct 2010
