Rulings
- When an honor loss is redirected away from a player, that player is no longer losing honor and so cannot be affected by further loss-modifying effects. E.g., you cannot use Goshiu and a Ninja Shapeshifter to copy a loss from Player A to Player B twice. Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 92
- Can be used to fork any loss of honor you suffer, even if you caused the loss yourself. [card text, and DW, l5rinfo] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 17
- Does not duplicate any special restrictions of the original honor loss, just the amount. [DW, l5rinfo, 6/13/96] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 17
- Does not count as modifying the original loss. Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 17
- Accumulated Rulings Accumulated Rulings, April 22, 1998, p. 9
- Q: Can I use the Yoritomo's Alliance Stronghold to cause myself a huge honor loss and then cause an equal loss to someone else with the inexperienced Bayushi Goshiu? A: No. When using Yoritomo's honor-for-gold effect, every point of honor loss is separate due to the "1-for1" clause. You can use Goshiu, but only to duplicate one of the 1-pt losses. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 13
- Q: Can I use Bayushi Goshiu to duplicate an honor loss at an opponent, then use another reaction to reduce my own loss? A: That would be nice, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, you can't. Read Goshiu's card carefully. His ability can only be used "after you have lost Family Honor". After you've actually taken a loss, you can't change the amount. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 20
Rules Q&A
- Q: this came up in a game last sunday.
i have my personality dishonored. my opponent then uses Shame [to lose 7 honor] on my personality.
i reacted with my Hantei Naseru
my opponent then reacted with his Bayushi Goshiu xp
can i react again with Hantei Naseru?
Thanks
A: Yes, you may react again with Naseru. The sequence is this:
1. Shame is about to give its loss. 1A. You react to the loss with with Naseru's action, discarding the Favor to pay the cost. 1Aa. Before Naseru's action resolves, Goshiu Reacts to its resolution, negating its negation effect, so the loss will still occur. 1B. Does your opponent have a Reaction to Shame's loss? No. Pass. 1C. Do you have another Reaction to Shame's loss? Yes! Naseru's Reaction may be taken any number of times per turn. Here's the kicker, though. Can you pay the cost of discarding the Favor again (notice, at no point above was your first discarding "refunded")? If not, it is illegal to announce Naseru's Reaction again, since you can't pay for it. But if you have some means of doing so (Acquiring Favor, Kyuden Otomo, etc), go for it. Related to my earlier question, but with Bayushi Goshiu (not exp) and with a Black Mail being played by me and losing 3. As the active player, I can then react first with Goshiu to reflect the honor loss to my opponent. Can my opponent then react with giving up the favor to prevent the honor loss from Black Market? Or they can only prevent the honor loss from Goshiu’s ability?
@Brook Cunningham wanted to know your thoughts. Thank you
A: The player with the Favor can React to either the Black Market loss or the Goshiu loss, preventing either, but they cannot react to the Black Market loss after you activate Goshiu, because you have already lost the Black Market Honor at that point.
