Rules Q&A
- Q: Player A plays Shuten Dojis Fury targeting three heros of player B. Can player B play Take the Charge to redirect the action to one of the other originally targets and thus change the number of targets for the action?
A: Take the Charge says, "Heroic Reaction: When a Battle action would target one of your Personalities: The action instead targets another legal Hero Personality of your choice that you control."
Shuten Doji's Fury can not target the same Personality more than once. So a Hero Personality who is already Target B could not qualify as "another legal Hero Personality" for the purposes of being Target C.
Also, remember that targeting another legal target is the exception to the regular rules about "instead." Martin Lund, "Take the Charge vs Shuten Doji's Fury", 19 Nov 2007 - Q: EXCEPTION: In effects that substitute targeting, if the new target has to be a "legal" target, then failure to find a new legal target -- one that satisfies the requirements of the original targeting plus any additional requirements on targeting from other sources -- means the original targeting happens normally. [ADDED 24 Sept 2007]
A: So unless you can find a legal Hero Personality who was not one of the original 3 targets of Shuten Doji's Fury, you can't get anywhere with Take the Charge.
The same thing goes for Turn of Fortune. Martin Lund, "Take the Charge vs Shuten Doji's Fury", 19 Nov 2007 - Q: What happen if I redirect ranged attack on personality with higer force than ranged attack.
A: Redirection does not exist in Samurai Edition rules. You have to read cards on a case by case basis.
In the case of Take the Charge and Ranged Attacks, there is no rule requiring Ranged Attacks target cards with a particular force. Zen Faulkes, "Take the Charge redirecting follow up", 20 Sep 2007 - Q: If action target one of my personality's. Can I redirect action (using Take the Charge) on personality out of battle(?)
A: No general answer. Depends on the action to be redirected. The question to ask is: Could you have targeted the Personality you want to redirect to in the first place? If yes, you can redirect it there. If not, you can't. Zen Faulkes, "Take the Charge", 27 May 2007
