Rules Q&A
- Q: Let's suppose Tamago is political entanglement-ed twice, he now reads : reduce tamago's chi by -1 to.
So can I give +1ph to have him issue a challenge (5/4 peep is still beefy ^^). Well, I know it is pointless, but I wondered if such things were possible.
A: I'll send this to Jeff to see what kind of exact wording he wants to put on this, but I do not believe you can "reduce" something by a Negative Number, in plain English, anyway. I do understand the mathematical concept of subtracting a negative, though. Martin Lund, "Rules for 30 July 2004", 5 Aug 2004 - Q: Mantis Player has a sizeable force. Ronin player has unbowed Tamago. Chuuna bows and targets Tamago. Mantis player declares attack and assigns peeps. Ronin player uses Strike Quickly w/ Tamago. Tamago moves in, bows from Chuuna. ...
(C)an I use Strike Quickly with Tamago and use his ability, or no?
A: No.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Costs_and_restr ... ermissions: "A permission does not break rules that it doesn't specifically refer to.
"Example: 'Your target Infantry Personality may assign in Cavalry Maneuvers' does not allow a bowed unit to assign."
Similarly, being allowed to take an action to use a base ability does not mention "even if bowed", so it doesn't override that rule. Zen Faulkes, "Moshi Chuuna vs Strike Quickly", 2 Mar 2011 - Q: Is the Emerald Champion created by his Arrival a viable target for effects targeting Unaligned personalities such as Tamago's trait or The Badgers Live?
A: Well, I want to say first that neither The Badgers Live's nor Tamago's effects upon unaligned Personalities actually "target".
But, besides that, the Personality created by Arrival of the Emerald Champion does indeed have no Clan alignment, so he is unaligned and would be affected by those two cards. Brook Cunningham, "Arrival of the Emerald Champion vs Tamago", 3 Apr 2010 - Q: part in bold covers Unique, Loyal and "will only join / will not join".
covers Singular.
so, yes, it can copy anything.
well, anything unless The False Hoturi is in play because he counts as the Egg for uniqueness, unlike Tamago who counts as the Egg for deck construction.
A: The trick to Egg of P'an Ku is that it enters play first (under your control) and then it copies the targeted card (gaining Singular, Loyal, or what have you).
Those Rules don't prohibit cards you already control gaining those traits, just you gaining control of cards which have the trait already.
As for Daizu, having used his trait is not a change to Daizu's Card. It is simply an in-game event that everyone remembers. The Egg hasn't used the trait yet, even if it copies a Daizu who has done so. It is still a distinct card from that copy of Daizu. Martin Lund, "A Couple More Egg Questions", 15 Feb 2005
