Rulings
- Q: Is it really possible to have two Sensei on one Stronghold? A: Yes. If you play Forgotten Lesson, your original Sensei "does not affect play," which means you pretend it isn't even there. You can legally play A New Teacher while Forgotten Lesson is in effect. After Forgotten Lesson wears off, voila! Two Sensei on one Stronghold. Note, however, that you can't put a second Sensei on this way using the Stronghold ability of Temples of the Crow. In that case, discarding the Sensei is a cost of putting the new one on. The Imperial Herald, Issue 16, p. 12
Rules Q&A
- Q: I'd assume it'd be legal to negate someone else's Kozue for a turn using Forgotten Lesson? Or trade your starting Sensei for a bird using the Temples of the Crow ability? Or to use Temples to discard Kozue to play a second Sensei on your stronghold?
A: When a game term already has a definition, you don't use keywords. The Gold Edition rulebook even lists "Sensei" on page 33 as one example of an instance in which keywords don't apply. References to Sensei only work with cards that match the type displayed on page 8. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 Oct. 2002", 8 Oct 2002 - Q: Is there another way to play a Sensei card other then at the beggining of the game? Ignoring Temples of the Crow, I thought you couldn't, but I heard you can play them as a limited action.
A: There is no standard way to put a Sensei into play after the beginning of the game. It can only be done with card effects. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 June 2002", 18 Jun 2002 - Q: How does Chiang-Tsu intereact with the Temples of the Crow?
A: Very badly? Sensei is a reserved game term, and a personality with the Sensei trait doesn't count as a Sensei card type. Something would specifically have to refer to 'personalities with the Sensei trait' to get past the general rule about reserved game terms. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 30th", 30 Jul 2001 - Q: I think I already know the answer to this but I want to double check. If I start with Hantei Sensei and then, later in the game after gaining some honor, bow my Stronghold to switch to Shoju Sensei, is my honor reduced by 2?
A: No. Once a game has begun, changes to starting Family Honor do not affect current Family Honor. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 21 January 2001", 25 Jan 2001 - Q: - Do they go to the fate discard pile when they are discarded or are they removed from the game instead ? - If I discard my Sensei with the ability of the stronghold : Temples of the Crow, does it go to the discard pile?
A: Sensei cards go to the discard pile when they are discarded or destroyed. Alex Jones, "Sensei, fate card, fate discard pile", 28 May 2008
