Rules Q&A
- Q: Reju has 3 chi and no other effects. He has an Ambition attached. He challenges Paneki (the rat himself) who has 5 chi. Reju uses the reaction on the Ambition. [Reju] also has a Tetsubo in his arsenal. Upon starting the duel with Paneki, will Reju be at 5 chi or 4 chi?
A: The Tetsubo's penalty is a trait that is active as soon as the challenge is accepted (see Archive, General Rules, Duels). Ambition's reaction comes after that, setting Reju to 5C.
As for the general question, see Dark Allies rulebook, Page 32: after Ambition's Reaction is used, ongoing bonuses are *not* reapplied. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 24 May 2002, Part 2", 25 May 2002 - Q: but what if I also use cards like Tetsubo or Kakita Technique, who gets to strike first then?
A: Whichever of these cards goes into effect last is the only one that matters. Tetsubo will always go into effect first, being a trait that's always present. Coward's Way and Kakita Technique both have the same trigger and timing, so you can play them in either order. I recommend Coward's Way first. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 April 2002 pt. 2", 8 Apr 2002
