Rules Q&A
- Q: Rough sequence of events:
Opponent targets my personality with Bayushi Jutsushi.
Opponent plays Ambush, targetting my Jutsushi'd guy.
It forces me to assign, dishonour, and lose 2 honour.
During the battle, my opponent destroys my dishonourable personality, causing me to lose honour equal to his personal honour.
Opponent goes home bowed, and loses 5 honour.
If I play Distractions in Court in Reaction to the Ambush being announced, how many of these honour losses are reduced by 5?
A: Only the loss from Jutsushi would be reduced. It triggers from assigning, and the assigning happens during the action's resolution, but the battle itself happens after the resolution (card text). The action ends when its resolution ends; those timing points are synonymous. Brook Cunningham, "Distractions in Court + Ambush", 26 Oct 2010 - Q: During my opponent's turn, I target an opposing personality with Bayushi Jutsushi's Open action, then subsequently use Enticement to take control of the personality I targeted with Jutsushi. If my opponent then declares an attack against me and I assign the Enticed personality to defend, who loses the honor?
Bayushi Jutsushi: Political Open: Target a Personality with Personal Honor lower than Jutsushi's Chi. After the next time the Personality's unit assigns this turn, dishonor him, and his controller loses 2 Honor.
Enticement: Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
A: You are the controller. You would lose 2 honor if you assign a person you control (whether through Enticement or whatever else) to defend. Dan Jacobson, "Bayushi Jutsushi + Enticement", 2 Feb 2010 - Q: To clarify, I read previous rulings that each Bayushi Jutsushi is a seperate effect, so, if a personality assigns and commits seppuku after being targeted by multilple Jutsushis' abilities, are they honorably or dishonorably dead and does the personalities controller lose their Personal Honor if they are dishonorably dead?
A: Once the personality is dead from seppuku, subsequent effects that dishonor him will make him Dishonorably Dead, but you will not continue to lose that honor, as he was only destroyed once.
However, you will continue to lose the 2 honor from subsequent effects of Bayushi Jutsushi's action.
i.e. Hida Kaoru has been targeted by Bayushi Jutsushi three times. She is then targeted and assigned by Ambush.
A) Effect of Bayushi Jutsushi #1: Hida Kaoru is dishonored. A-1) Hida Kaoru's controller chooses to have her commit seppuku before the 1st honor loss. B) Hida Kaoru's controller loses 1 honor (2 reduced to 1 from the effects of seppuku) C) Effects of Bayushi Jutsushi #2: Hida Kaoru is dishonored again, and her controller loses 2 honor. Hida Kaoru is already dead, so she cannot commit seppuku again to reduce this honor loss. D)Effects of Bayushi Jutsushi #3: The dishonor effect fails (Hida Kaoru is already dishonored), and her controller loses 2 honor. Hida Kaoru is already dead, so she cannot commit seppuku again to reduce this honor loss.
The best thing to do would be to commit seppuku for the effects of Bayushi Jutsushi #3, so at least Hida Kaoru would remain honorably dead. You will still lose a total of 5 honor, however. Dan Jacobson, "Bayushi Jutsushi", 11 Dec 2009 - Q: For clarification, does this mean that if Jutsushi targets an opponents personality, then I target that personality with Ambush, he will be dishonored (and lose 2 honor)?
.
A: This is correct. Jutsushi does not state that it matters what player assigns that unit, just that if it assigns, the unit's Personality is dishonored and his controller loses 2 honor. Dan Jacobson, "Ambush and Bayushi Jutsushi", 16 Jul 2009
