Rules Q&A
- Q: My question is to ascertain if there is there any functional difference between the Battle/Open action on The Eighth Legion and Traveling Ronin. I searched on Traveling Ronin and did not find any answers to my questions.
The Eighth Legion Battle/Open: Attach this card from your hand to your target Personality. Before this turn ends, if this card is in play, you may put it in your hand.
Traveling Ronin Battle/Open:If this card is in your hand: Attach it to your target Personality. At the end of this turn, if this card is in play, you may put it in your hand.
Does the Delayed effect on both of these cards return to your hand at the same trigger point, namely after you have discarded down to 8 cards? Is this just a wording clean-up and thus the inclusion of the constraints block on Traveling Ronin is just not needed?
Thanks in advance!
A: Both occur after discarding down to max hand size (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Sequence_of_play#End_Phase).
The timing of the return to your hand differs slightly (8th "Before this turn ends" vs. Ronin "At the end of this turn"). Eight Legion will always be brought back into hand first. Zen Faulkes, "The Eighth Legion vs Traveling Ronin", 25 Jan 2010
