Rules Q&A
- Q: If I target a non-unique in a discard pile of a player playing "The Hall of Ancestors" will its trait protect their personality from being RFG at the end of the turn?
A: Once you use Jackal's kiss to bring the Personality into play, he is no longer dead. If he is still not dead when the delayed effect of Jackal's Kiss occurs, the Stronghold cannot stop him from being whisked out of the game. If, however, you get the stolen Personality destroyed again before the turn ends, then he will again be dead and protected from removal. Brook Cunningham, "Jackal's Kiss vs Hall of Ancestors", 16 Jun 2008 - Q: I am playing out of the Hall of Ancestors stronghold. I control a Samarhad. The Portals Open has resolved, so now my dead Ratling Personality is also Lion Clan. I play Samarhad's ability and gain control over a personality. Then I use the Hall of the Ancestors ability to give the stolen personality the Ratling trait. Will I have to give the personality back to its owner (or former controller) when the turn ends?
A: Yes.
http://rules.l5r.com/Timing: "If two or more reactions, triggered traits, or rules procedures are triggered at the same point in time, follow this sequence from A through F to resolve their order. ...
"C. Apply any triggered rulebook effects that are not part of actions(.)" That's the expiration of the copying effect from The Hall of Ancestors, which occurs due to rules text. Remember, the text in parentheses is just a reminder (http://rules.l5r.com/Card_features#Reminder_text).
"D. Apply any delayed effects that resolved previously and are timed to the trigger(.)" That's Samarhad.
A Personality will lose a copied Ratling trait before Samahad checks for it. Zen Faulkes, "Samarhad + The Hall of Ancestors", 24 Mar 2008 - Q: Has this changed?
A: Could you be more specific as to why you think it might have? A little context would help. Zen Faulkes, "The Hall of Ancestors and Determination", 29 Jan 2008 - Q: Will a Determination played on a Fury of the Dark Lord remove the personalities in the Hall of Ancestors' discard pile from the game?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_C#Cannot
Hall of Ancestors negates. Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Determination + Fury of the Dark Lord vs Hall of Ancestors", 15 Sep 2007 - Q: I have Akodo Shigetoshi experienced dead in my discard pile. Can I copy his trait ("your tacticians have the ability: tactical battle...") using the Hall of Ancestors to another Lion personality?
A: Not an ability or keyword. No. Zen Faulkes, "Akodo Shigetoshi experienced and Hall of Ancestors", 15 Aug 2007 - Q: May I use a Lion player's(using the Hall of Ancestrors stronghold) dead personality to pay the cost of either of The Khan's Shining Horde's abilities?
A: No. (Corrected.) Zen Faulkes, "The Khan's Shining Horde VS The Hall of Ancestors", 7 Jun 2007
