Rulings
- Can bring a "Seven Thunders" card into play for free (e.g., Purity of the Seven Thunders). [Keyword rule, DW, email, 21 May 1997] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 102
- Q: The Experienced Hooded Ronin lets me bring out the Seven Thunders for free. Who are the Seven Thunders? A: Story-wise, the Seven Thunders are the spiritual descendents of the original seven Clan founders who imprisoned Fu Leng the first time he manifested. Game-wise, there aren't any...yet. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.4 & errata, June 1997, p. 19
Rules Q&A
- Q: 2) Do things that affect the Thunders affect all versions of them? (e.g. The Hooded Ronin Exp.)
A: No. Only cards that are actually Thunder cards by the Keyword Rule. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 January 2002", 29 Jan 2002 - Q: Hey all two q's
1) Do cards that affect the Thunders (e.g. The Hooded Ronin Exp.) affect all expierience versions of the Thunder?
2) The line on Shrine of the Spirits that says "Your events do not resolve." does mean that they have no effect instead of they take effect again every event phase?
A: When you turn one face up, nothing happens. It does not even deny the Event to any other players later in the game. Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 January 2002", 23 Jan 2002 - Q: Both the Hooded Ronin and Yokuni in Siege: Clan War have traits or abilities that refer to "Seven Thunder" cards. However, none of the Seven Thunders have keywords that say "Seven Thunder" (they only have "Seven Thunder" as part of their names).
While I'm pretty sure that the intention is that all of Seven Thunders are indeed Seven Thunders for the effects of the Hooded Ronin and Yokuni, I just want to confirm that that's indeed how they'll play in the current legal format.
Thanks,
A: It is how they will play.
Card subtitles (as well as the new distinction for Clan Alignment in the form of the card's printed mon) are now checked as well as keywords when looking for a "X" card. Brook Cunningham, "Seven Thunders?", 9 Aug 2015 - Q: So for the hooded ronin Cw his action is it a paid recruit or an unpaid
A: "Open, (bow), (): Give Destined to a target face-up Personality in a Province and ignore their Honor Requirement. If they are a Seven Thunder, you may Recruit them. One or more target players may each straighten a Ring they control." The "()" means that the action has a variable gold cost, which is the cost of the Personality you Recruit.
