- Erratum: Reads, "The Iron Fortress of the Daidoji 6PS 4GP 4FH Lower the Honor Requirements of Daidoji you own by 5, even if that drops it under 0. Non-Samurai, non-Shugenja Personalities cost 3 more Gold for you. Battle: Bow the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji to have one of your Samurai Personalities challenge an opposing Personality. If the challenged Personality refuses the challenge, send that Personality home bowed and Dishonored." [MRP, Gold Edition, 1 July 2001, and erratum, JA, 3 September 2002] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 147
- Erratum: The Iron Fortress of the Daidoji lowers the Honor Requirement of all Daidoji Personalities you own, not just those you control. [errata] Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, May 21, 2003, p. 14
- The "sent home bowed and dishonored" result of refusing the challenge is all one effect. If a unit cannot leave the battle, none of these results happen. [extension of ruling on "sent home bowed"] Reduces Daidoji honor requirements in the 0-to-4 range to negative numbers, not a "-". Honor requirements may be negative. Rules Q&A
- Q: When playing the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji, when does the gold cost increase get applied to non-Samurai and non-Shugenja personalities?
A: At all times. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 October 2002", 18 Oct 2002 - Q: To All, Sorry if this is a dead issue, but I never really thought much about it until someone brought it up. Can DAIDOJI Hachi be brought into play by a Crane player using the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji in a strict gold format tournament?
A: Yes. Daidoji Hachi and Yasuki Hachi are distinct cards and are both played as written in both Open and Gold formats. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 September 2002", 4 Sep 2002 - Q: A friend piped up and said that Jeff had ruled that Iron Fortress can be blocked by Test of Courage. Here's the relevant text from L5Rsearch and my question: Test of Courage Reaction: Play this card when an action is moving one of your target Personalities out of battle. Cancel the action. You cannot bow the Personality to take actions or target the Personality with actions until after the turn.
Iron Fortress of the Daidoji Battle: Bow the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji to have one of your Samurai challenge an opposing Personality. If the challenged Personality refuses the challenge, send that Personality home bowed and Dishonored.
Now it is MNSHO that this is an optional effect. I was under the impression that Optional Effects are not actions since they are...well...effects.
A: Irrelevant. A Test of Courage is now worded to trigger off an action sending one of your units home. The Iron Fortress's thingie is a Battle action, and if you refuse the challenge, it sends your Personality home. Thus AToC is playable. This comes directly from card text.
But I think I know why you're uncertain. A Test of Courage USED to be worded so that it was played as soon as one of your units was selected as the target of an action which "would" send it home. With that wording, the ruling was that AToC was only playable against actions which send a unit home unconditionally, since with a CONDITIONAL effect you don't yet know, at the time of targeting, whether or not the unit will be leaving. However, the wording of AToC has significantly changed and that ruling no longer holds. Jeff Alexander, "post for 30 January 2002", 31 Jan 2002 - Q: Pretty sure I can't, but just to make sure: Can I use the older printing of Yasuki Hachi (Daidoji Hachi) and get the negative 5 honor requirement with the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji?
I'm thinking that the new printing of "Yasuki" Hachi is MRP, so it wouldn't help...but thought I'd ask to confirm it.
A: Yasuki Hachi is neither an MRP of Daidoji Hachi nor the "Soul of Daidoji Hachi". They are played as printed in all tournament formats. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2001", 30 Oct 2001 - Q: Can I use the older printing of Yasuki Hachi (Daidoji Hachi) and get the negative 5 honor requirement with the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji?
A: Rules Archive, Yasuki Hachi: "Is distinct from Daidoji Hachi. (Card text)". Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 29 October 2001", 30 Oct 2001 - Q: By Gold rules, no, you may not use the Wind abilities on personalities if you are playing with Yodin Sensei (sorry, Tsudao).
You may target them with the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji, since Strongholds are not cards and hence the duel on the Iron Fortress is not a 'card effect'.
The Towers of the Yogo gives an ability to your Scorpion Clan Personalities, and since Personalities are cards, the ability granted by the Towers of the Yogo is a card effect, and therefore you cannot use it on other players' personalities.
A: No need for me to do any heavy lifting here. Scott is completely right here. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 October 2001", 11 Oct 2001 - Q: Will work on Personalities whose honor requirements were ignored for purposes of coming into play (e.g., Toturi's Army stronghold) but not those ignored continually (e.g., Naga strongholds). [Reversal, DW, email, 4/7/99]
How does this work With the Iron Fortress of the Daidoji? Shadowed tower of the Shosuro?
Can this card be used with show of good faith?
A: Both are continuous, so their reductions will be in force when you play I Believed in You. Zen Faulkes, "I believed in you", 5 Mar 2005
