Rules Q&A
- Q: Is it legal to use the Khol Wall ability on two Personalities at the current battlefield? (Khol Wall says "switch their locationS", but I'm not sure it's enough to make it illegal when the two are at the same location).
A: I suppose you could target them and take the Action all legal-like. Nothing on Khol wall says the targets need to be anything but unbowed and controlled by the same player. However, neither would move, so the ability would produce failed effects. Martin Lund, "Rules for 11 January 2005", 14 Jan 2005 - Q: Set up: I am playing Khol Wall. I have two Shinjo Loruko's in play. I have 5 or 6 regions in play. I have Moto Latomu exp in play. My opponent has two 3F chump blockers in play.
I attack my opponent's provinces A & B. Neither has a Region attached. He assigns one of his chump blockers to each Province, I assign a Loruko to each province, and keep Latomu exp in my Fief.
I resolve Province A first, and play Sneak Attack. I us e the Khol Wall Action and switch the location of my two Lorukos.
Question 1: Can I place a generic Region at both Provinces (or just the active battle) using Loruko's reaction to movement?
A: You should be able to do it in both Provinces. It does not reference "opposing" or "this battle" or "the current battle," to run afoul of the infamous page 81 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook. Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 January 2004", 6 Jan 2005 - Q: Ambush says "No other units may assign or move to this battle." The Khol Wall (and Northern Provinces) allow me to switch the locations of two Unicorn personalities. So were I to attempt to switch locations of an Ambushed person and a person in my home, what happens?
A: "Switching units counts as moving the units, and is one effect. Preventing one unit from moving prevents switching. [VRD, 10 December 2000]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Battle") Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 December 2004", 15 Dec 2004 - Q: [5].Swittching + The Khol Wall + Slaughter the Scout
"Battle: Bow a Region you control: Target two unbowed Personalities with the same controller. Switch their locations." Is considered a movement?
A: "Switching units counts as moving the units, and is one effect. Preventing one unit from moving prevents switching. [VRD, 10 December 2000]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Battle: Action Segment") Martin Lund, "Rules for 11 December 2004", 13 Dec 2004 - Q: I have a question about the interaction between Far and Wide and the singular traits on regions.
The following situation occured: a Khol Wall player flips his provinces in his event phase and attaches two regions, refills face down and after the end of his event phase he flips those cards face up. The cards that now sit face up on the just attached regions are also regions. Region 1 (sorrows path) has a Barbarian Wall on it, and Region 2 (Barbarian Wall) has a sorrows path on it. Can the Khol Wall player play a Far and Wide to attach one of these regions to the other?
A: No. Martin Lund, "Rules for 5 December 2004", 9 Dec 2004 - Q: Hello rule team!
I know the Khol Wall card text has not yet been updated for the Ivory Rules on the Oracle but I would like to know how should I use it.
So my turn starts: 1 - I reveal every face down card, I am lucky and reveal a region on my leftmost province. 2 - As I now control a region on my leftmost province, I'll have to reveal its face down card. => Does it count as the start of my turn for updated old school event like Occult Murder? I would like to say no but... I cannot find any obvious reason.
Actual card text: The Khol Wall: (I've deleted the battle action and the other trait since it does not produce any issue) After each of your Events Phase ends: Turn face-up all Dynasty cards in all your provinces that have a Region attached. Occult Murder: After you reveal cards in your Provinces at the start of your turn, if this Event is face-up in one of them, starting with you and proceeding in turn order, each player destroys a Personality or Retainer controlled by the player to his right.
Thanks in advance, Best Regards, Rémo.
A: No, the old timing will be preserved as much as possible. The turning face-up will occur after the time that Events would resolve, so Occult Murders would not trigger right after being turned face-up. When Khol Wall is updated the "After Events Phase" timing will probably be something like, "Before your Action Phase begins," which is clearly AFTER your turn has started, since it places it in the null-space between "turn start" and "Action Phase". If you follow me? Brook Cunningham, "Legacy: Khol Wall + New Ivory events rules", 1 Oct 2014 - Q: I play Open Warfare. Khol Wall's trait that allows to have 2 Regions on each province disappears. Does the Khol Wall player have to destroy a region on each province?
A: No; see here. (Edit: Correction.) Zen Faulkes, "Khol Wall, Regions, and Open Warfare", 17 Mar 2005
