Rules Q&A
- Q: Using this card is it legal to name a fate card that is not in your deck?
A: Yes. If you can't find the named card, you don't have to discard anything. Martin Lund, "Rules for 10 January 2005", 13 Jan 2005 - Q: 1) When Last Prophecy resolves, may I name a card that is not in my deck??
A: Yes. If your opponent does not believe that you lack a copy of that card, you can have a judge validate it. In most cases, I doubt this would be an issue. If you really want to dodge the effect, I don't recall any rule forcing you to name a format-legal card.
(In fact, at one point in my career playing and judging Magic, you could name "The Ace of Spades," for a similar effect if you pleased.) Martin Lund, "Rules for 30 November 2004", 3 Dec 2004 - Q: If The Last Prophecy resolves for my opponent and he wants to search out a card and I play Seek the Path on him to make him draw his top card, does he then discard a number of cards equal to that cards focus value, as per the remaining effect of The Last Prophecy?
A: No. All the subsequent effects (show it, add it to your hand, etc.) key off of the card you searched for. If you don't search for a card, then they can't happen. Martin Lund, "The Last Prophecy and Seek the Path", 11 Apr 2005
