Rules Q&A
- Q: Shosuro Hawado XP has this ability: Reaction: After a Battle action resolves, if Hawado is at the current battlefield, target a Personality that performed it: Move him from his current location to another.
Am I correct in thinking that this can target the performing Personality at any location, so long as Hawado herself is at the current battlefield?
Examples: 1. Bayushi Keirei XP uses his Battle ability to move himself to a different battlefield, dropping poison tokens along the way, Hawado XP reacts and brings him back to the current battlefield. 2. Kakita Kae uses her Battle ability to move herself home, Hawado XP reacts and drags her back to the battlefield (or to a different battlefield entirely).
Thanks!
A: Reactions are not bound by the Rule of Location, so the target of Hawado's action may be at any location, and may be moved to any (different) location. Alex Jones, "Shosuro Hawado XP", 22 Oct 2012 - Q: If I use Keirei's ability and target a berserker and my opponent reacts with Halls of the Forgotten. Is giving a personality the poison tokens considered an effect on the berserker?
A: Yes. Alex Jones, "Bayushi Keirei & Halls of the Forgotten", 8 Jun 2012 - Q: Can I use Keirei's ability to give a personality a -1f token if there are no adjacent battlefields? Or will the good faith rule prevent me from doing so?
A: The Good Faith rule (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Abilities_and_a ... Faith_Rule) requires you be able to pick targets, meet conditions, and pay costs.
Bayushi Keirei's ability has no mandatory targets, one condition (that he be in current battlefield), and no costs.
Adjacent battlefields doesn't run afoul of that rule at all. In essence, this is "Can I take an action if an effect can't happen?" which is in the FAQ: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#Is_an_actio ... _happen.3F Zen Faulkes, "Bayushi Keirei", 5 Mar 2011
