Rules Q&A
- Q: If I have the Maw and Ki-Rin Shrine (non-XP) in play, and the Maw gets Force of Will'd, is he dead for 0 Chi, or 7 Chi and 7 PH?
A: Set Chi to old PH and PH to old Chi. Apply minimums (minimum Chi is now 7 of Force of Will was cast by someone else). The Maw lives at 7 Chi. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 24 March 2004", 26 Mar 2004 - Q: After looking at Obsidian and Jade; If I target the Maw with Obsidian and Jade and then declare and attack. If I assign the Maw to attack during the infantry phase, neither the defender nor attacker can assign or move anyone into that battle as long as the Maw is there?
A: From the FAQ:
] Q: Obsidian and Jade says, "That Personality cannot assign or move ] to a battle with other Personalities, and other Personalities may ] not assign or move to a battle with that Personality." Does that ] mean it's illegal for other players to assign defenders against the ] Personality I played this card on? ] ] A: No. Those restrictions apply only to units on the same side as ] that Personality -- units trying to assign to a battle "with" it. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 May 2003", 29 May 2003 - Q: 1.) Which of the following can I use Imperial Messenger against?
a.) someone bringing The Maw or other personality with associated honor loss into play b.) someone bringing a corrupt holding into play c.) someone bringing an Oni into play with I Give You My Name if the oni has an honor loss associated with it d.) Shosuro Yudoka's honor loss
A: All of them. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 May 2003", 9 May 2003 - Q: The Maw is in a battle and it is attacking. BSL is played on it and is reacted to with Test of courage. Can the Maw still use his ability to send someone home from the battle?
Yes.
Isn't the Maw's ablity considered to be a use of tactician?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 6 May 2003", 7 May 2003 - Q: 1.
I use the spell possession to combine the MAW with toku. Is it impossible to use this new oni's send home ability because possession takes away the tactction trait?
A: It is impossible. The action still counts as a use of Tactician, but the Personality lacks the trait. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 March 2003", 27 Mar 2003 - Q: 1.
Skeleton Troops does a fear 2 to an opposing unit containing a Ijiasu with an attached Farmer Tocken. Ijiasu's controller reacts to the fear and bows a Ikoma Tsai and plays Flee the Farkness.
2.
The Maw uses its Tactician ability to send home an opposing Ijiasu. Ijiasu's controller plays test of courage cancelling that actions.
Question:
When you cancel an action it was as if the action never happened, but cost still were paid. So by canceling fear in [1] could the Skeletons Troops just use their fear again as there next action since it didn't occur because of being cancelled? Or is the use of Fear for that turn considered a cost?
A: Restrictions such as "once per battle" are not costs. The Skeletons could try using their Fear action again later that battle. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 Oct 2002", 7 Oct 2002
