Rules Q&A
- Q: I feel this is kind of a straightforward answer but I don't know the details well enough to figure it out myself. I also searched for a question like this but didn't find one here. So, my question:
Do personalities with Reactions as their only printed non-trait count as "Personalities with Abilities" so far as The Topaz Championship is concerned?
For example, let's say I have both Shinjo Byung (Blank, no traits or abilities) and Shinjo Jong-Ho (No trait, does have a Reaction) in play and I reveal The Topaz Championship. Am I able to target either or is Byung the only valid target?
Basically, does a Reaction count as an ability? I would like to think "Yes" but given I was wrong about "Battle Actions" vs. "Actions" I want to make sure there's not some distinction I'm missing. Thanks!

The Topaz Championship Choose one of your Personalities in play without abilities. Permanently give him +1F/+1C, the trait "Before the first time each turn another player's card effect destroys this Personality: Negate the destruction", and the ability, "Battle: Target an enemy card without attachments: Destroy it."
Shinjo Jong-Ho Reaction: After a Tactical action Jong-Ho performed resolves, target a card opposing him with lower Force: Bow it.
Shinjo Byung (No text to mention - she has no traits or abilities)
A: Reactions are abilities - see Card features, Abilities and Abilities and actions, Designators. Alex Jones, "The Topaz Championship and Personalities with Reactions", 7 Oct 2012 - Q: If I target my Kuronada with the Topaz Championship. I then in the dynasty phase overlay him with Kuronada exp2 for free (skipping exp). (feel free to make it "Daigotsu Gyoken" and "Daigotsu Gyoken exp2" to make it a non-legacy question. I don't play with spider clan personalities )

A: Does the resulting kuronada exp 2. card get the force and chi bonus (applied to his base force and chi)?
B: Does he get the kuronada exp 2 get the granted trait 'before the first time each turn another player's card effects destroys this personality.. etc."
C: does he get the ability to target enemy cards without attachments and destroy them? (featuring effectively 2 abilities on the resulting kuronada)
I am confused because my understanding of the new rules would override all of the overlaid cards abilities, stats, keywords, traits, etc. (right?) But it keeps his ongoing effects, and in this case they are ongoing effects that provide stat changes, abilities, and traits. (ironically not the 'topaz champion' keyword, though I think it should) Also, is this in any way different from using 'spirit of' cards?
A: Yes, all three of the bonuses from The Topaz Championship are ongoing effects, so the Personality would keep them if overlaid. Jon Palmer, "ongoing effects (jeweled champion event) + overlaying", 24 Apr 2012
