Rules Q&A
- Q: If I, being a Crane player, play "The Trap is Sprung!" targeting a samurai with a follower, then what will get bowed?
Trap is Sprung bows the samurai and then bows the unit if it's user is Crane Clan. However, Know no Fear negates the bowing from the action's effects. Thus, I was wondering it would negate both instances of the bowing in The Trap is Sprung's effect or just the first instance of bowing. Regardless, the follower would still get bowed, correct?
A: Know No Fear negates the Samurai's bowing from the action's effects, and both bowing him and bowing the unit are effects that bow him, therefore, he will not bow. However, if you are a Crane Clan player the follower will still be bowed. Jon Palmer, "Know no Fear vs Trap is Sprung", 11 Feb 2012 - Q: Wouldn't the bowing of the Chagatai's Armor happen first? No. The Reaction is "Before the resolution of another player's action", which is before any effects of Only Actions Speak (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Abilities_and_a ... resolution).
(W)ith The Trap is Sprung, wouldn't it check if you have reconned so that it would bow the Chagatai's Armor first. Then check if you are a Crane Clan Player to see if the rest of the unit bows?
A: No, for same reason as above. Zen Faulkes, "Only Actions Speak vs. Chagatai's Armor", 2 May 2011 - Q: The Trap is Sprung states "bow a target enemy card. Bow its unit if you are a Crane Clan player". Let's say that I am a Crane player and am targeting a Kakita Kensho-in who has won a duel this turn with Trap is Sprung. Kensho-in could negate the "bow a target enemy card" but would still get bowed by the "bow its unit if you are a Crane Clan player" part of the Trap is Sprung card, correct?
A: Yes.
Bowing the target card and bowing the target card's unit are two separate bow effects, and Kakita Kensho-in will only negate one bow effect. Alex Jones, "The Trap is Sprung & Kakita Kensho-in", 6 Jun 2010
