Rules Q&A
- Q: The Turtle's Shell targets a Ranged Attack, and the card you choose to perform the Turtle's Shell.
A: Disagree. It's like Arrows from the Woods. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 April 2002 pt. 1", 5 Apr 2002 - Q: Poisoned Weapon does not target anything because it says so. The Turtle's Shell targets the ranged attack.
I would like to point out the Poisoned Weapon does not say that it does not target at all, it say "This action does not target the Personality." This is very different then not targeting at all.
A: While true, since that Personality is the only thing that *would* have been targeted if not for that line, the result is as I stated: Poisoned Weapon is not a targeted action. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 October 2001", 3 Oct 2001 - Q: Hey guys,
Tried looking for a ruling on that but I couldn't find it. Just curious if Siado's invest melee 5 be The Turtle's Shell or We are Not yet Beaten. I was under the impression you could not interrupt it but I could be wrong
Thanks
A: You cannot stop the attack with an Interrupt.
Per the CR, Invest: When Invest appears on a non-Strategy card, its effects come from the Invest trait, not the action that brought the card into play. Alex Jones, "Goju Saido and interrupts", 16 Jan 2015 - Q: In the case of Yashiro bowing to make a RA that would target a Shadowlands card, if the RA is negated by Turtle's Shell, does he get to straighten?
If he's interrupting another RA with his RA 4, does this change if he bows or not (If Turtle's Shell isn't used?
MOD EDIT: Added full card titles to the subject. - Ryushi
A: The Turtle's Shell only negates the Ranged or Melee Attacks an action produces, not the additional effects that may be associated with the action as a whole. Targeting is also not an effect, and because of this it is never negated; it always happens.
As such, Tsuruchi Yashiro - Experienced will straighten when you use his ability. Ben Higgins, "The Turtle's Shell + Tsuruchi Yashiro XP", 19 Jul 2014 - Q: Aramasu's Mask refers to just negating an action, so could I use it to negate an interrupt played by my opponent during the interrupt step of resolving the Battle action assuming the interrupt is from an action on a Fate card? For instance if I have used Tactical Advantage with a 3 Focus Value card can I then negate The Turtle's Shell?
Relevant Text: Interrupt, (bow) : Negate an action from a Fate card with the same Focus Value as a card discarded by this Personality's Tactical Advantage action this turn.
A: Interrupt actions are not themselves interruptable. Aramasu's Mask cannot negate The Turtle's Shell. Alex Jones, "Aramasu's Mask and Interrupts", 2 Jun 2014 - Q: When should I play the interrupt, upon the announcement of the melee/ranged attack, orupon targeting of my personality?
A: Technically neither.
All Interrupts to an action are played after all its costs are paid (if any), just before its effects resolve; so, visually speaking, right at the bolded colon. Brook Cunningham, "The Turtle's Shell", 18 Apr 2014 - Q: From what I can tell the sequence for taking an action is now:
Announce action Pay costs [Interrupt window] Resolve effects in order, targeting cards as required.
This would mean that if my opponent is taking a ranged attack or fear action, I have to choose whether to use my copy of The Turtle's Shell or A Stout Heart before I find out which of my cards my opponent intends to target, correct?
A: \
All correct. Brook Cunningham, "Timing of Interrupts and Targeting", 16 Jan 2014
