Rules Q&A
- Q: If I overlay Shosuro, when playing scorpion,on Bayushi Motomu, she keep the ability of Motomu. But what about the traits? Does she become a samourai?
A: The Diamond Edition Rulebook is clear on this:
"The later version keeps the earlier one's attached cards, tokens, bowed and dishonored status, and all changes currently in effect, and permanently gains all its abilities. The later version's printed stats and traits override those on the earlier version." (DE Rulebook, page 66, "Experienced Traits")
She does not become a Samurai. Martin Lund, "Rules for 6 January 2005", 10 Jan 2005 - Q: 3) Can the action to unbow all shugenja on Sezaru be used in the same method as the unbow action on Bayushi Motomu both in and out of battle?
A: You mean, can Sezaru use his unbow Action while he's bowed? Yes, so long as it unbows him in the process. If he loses "Shugenja," or is locked down by the Ruby of Iuchiban, he'll be in trouble. Martin Lund, "Rules for 15 December 2004", 22 Dec 2004 - Q: Can a bowed Bayushi Motomu straighten himself with his ability if he's not the only personality in the battle?
A: Actually, while Motomu is bowed he's the ONLY target you could choose that would make the Action legal. Remember that abilities on bowed cards can not be used without an explicit text exemption UNLESS they straighten the card itself.
So the only time Motomu will satisfy this when bowed is if you attempt to straighten him with himself. Martin Lund, "Rules for 26 May 2004", 29 May 2004 - Q: If I pay for a samurai using 2 Secluded Outposts, can I combine those effects to attach an item or follower costing 8 or less gold for free? I.e. I pay for Bayushi Motomu with 2 Secluded Outposts, can I then slap the clan sword on him without cost?
A: No. Secluded outpost says, "If this pays for a Samurai or Bushi Personality, you may attach an Item or Follower to him from your hand after he enters play, for 4 Gold less. You must pay all remaining costs."
That's an individual effect. You either use it, or you don't, all or nothing. There is no option to combine them. If you use two Secluded Outposts to buy a Samurai or Bushi, you may attach 0-2 Items / Followers at 4 Gold less each. You may not choose to attach 1 Item / Follower at 8 Gold less.
