Rules Q&A
- Q: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=74660
I don't believe I understand. For, it has been said that I can use Determination to destroy Sozen, but I cannot use Determination to target a nomen effected card with a dishonored personality. Why is one negation different than another?
A: Because Sozen's instance of "cannot" IS negation, but Nomen's is NOT.
See here, point "1." and the "EXCEPTION" within it. Brook Cunningham, "Bayushi Nomen and Determination", 16 Mar 2009 - Q: Can i target Bayushi Nomen with an action performed by a dishonorable personality while he is not on an army?
A: No, you can not.
I realize that a strict application of the Conjunction Rules makes his trait read, "...can not target Nomen in Nomen's army or Personalities in Nomen's army." But "can not target Nomen in Nomen's army" doesn't make a lot of sense, and it isn't how such a trait would be written if it were just on its own. Sometimes one has to rule based on the most sensical interpretation and by taking a look at the broader picture.
So, in summation, Bayushi Nomen (basic) is always an illegal target for actions performed by Personalities who were dishonorable when the action was announced, no matter what his location. Brook Cunningham, "Bayushi Nomen + Being targeted while not in an army", 24 Jul 2008 - Q: Can Dishonorable personalities perform actions from Action cards while in Bayushi Nomen's army?
A: No. But keep in mind not all actions on action cards are performed -- see the FAQ, http://rules.l5r.com/FAQ#What_performs_an_action.3F. Zen Faulkes, "Bayushi Nomen", 29 Dec 2007 - Q: If in Army A there is Akodo Seiichi and he's dishonored , can he use his ability to bow a unit in opposing army B in which there is Bayushi Nomen?
A: Seiichi's ability does not target. (Nothing targets unless the card says so.) Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Akodo Seiichi and Bayushi Nomen", 27 Dec 2007
