Rules Q&A
- Q: Question: does In Search of the Future lower force bonuses from Togashi Jusai's Fire tokens to 0?
A: Fire Tokens are not cards. The bonus from them is not a bonus from a card. Ergo, they are not immune to the effects of the MRP of In Search of the Future. Jusai will have each bonus from each Fire Token reduced to 0.
This is already addressed in the L5R FAQ at http://l5r.alderac.com/ccg/faq.html "Focus on ... In Search of the Future" Martin Lund, "Rules for 11 - 13 August 2004", 18 Aug 2004 - Q: Questions that came up in games over the weekend (I wanted the official word so that I don't make any miscalls during Kotei season):
1. Togashi Jusai vs. Overconfidence This is an ancient ruling that I don't remember the final word on. If I give Jusai 5 fire tokens as 1 action does it count as a 5 point bonus or 5 one point bonuses?
A: That will be 5 separate bonuses on 1 force each. Each individual token grants its own bonus effect, and none of the bonuses are considered to be from the Action that created the tokens.
"An action creating a "+X " token is not an action providing a bonus to a given stat. [VRD, 26 July 2001]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Bonuses and Penalties") Martin Lund, "Rules for 5 April 2004", 7 Apr 2004 - Q: What if I'm in a battle, and I have Yoritomo Komori and my opponent has Togashi Jusai. He takes an action to add fire tokens to his personality and I then take the action to remove one of the tokens. This could go on forever- how would this be resolved?
A: By reading Yoritomo Komori (Experienced): "May not target tokens created during this battle." Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 30 November 2003", 1 Dec 2003 - Q: Clay Horse will keep [Togashi Jusai] from bowing...right?
A: Yes. "Prevent this unit from becoming bowed by the battle" (card text). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 6 November 2003, Part 2", 7 Nov 2003 - Q: If he is in an attacking army after you have given him some fire tokens, can he be straightened with Spearhead.
A: No. "While he has any Fire tokens, he *cannot* straighten" (card text). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 4 November 2003, Part 2", 5 Nov 2003 - Q: Since Jusai is the Soul of Mitsu, I would think Spearhead would prevent him from bowing.
A: Spearhead doesn't work like Rallying Cry: it doesn't prevent. Jusai's stuck. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 4 November 2003, Part 2", 5 Nov 2003 - Q: Since they are at some point bowed before playing the Spearhead, it triggers their 'destroy a token, instead' clause.
A: Incorrect. Jusai can only lose tokens during the Straighten Phase (card text).
Ah, people trying to find loopholes for the Tattooed Man. It's like an Imperial Edition high school reunion. It makes me all nostalgic... Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 4 November 2003, Part 2", 5 Nov 2003
