Rules Q&A
- Q: I have Hoshi Masujiro from Lotus. He has been reprinted in Samurai as Togashi Masujiro with the same art and same affects but with a new family name. Are my old copies legal in a samurai deck under the ruling of older cards are acceptable but use the most recent English printing and treating the old copies and new copies as the same card for deck construction purposes (x3)

viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60429 Zen Faulkes, "Legality of Togashi / Hoshi Masujiro", 6 Sep 2007 - Q: Togashi Masujiro is bowed. I straighten him via Ring of Air. Can I use his reaction and gain 2 honor?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Bowed Togashi Masujiro and Togashi Tsuri (Experienced)", 1 Sep 2007 - Q: Same scenario but with Togashi Tsuri (Experienced). Can I use his reaction and gain 1 honor?
A: No.
1. Announce action.
2. Select targets.
3. Pay cost of bowing Ring.
4. Play Reactions to Ring bowing. Not legal because abilities on bowed cards can't be used.
5. Resolve effects straightening Personality. Zen Faulkes, "Bowed Togashi Masujiro and Togashi Tsuri (Experienced)", 1 Sep 2007 - Q: This question is in regards to the dragon personality Togashi Masujiro from SE and Hoshi Masujiro from Path of Hope in LE. Both are identical cards however the first part of the name is different. Previously I knew that if a name was different than the cards would be considered distinctly different. Since the name changed via story and they are the same person does this mean anything. Basically I'm asking are they distinctly different cards due to a simple first name change? So in Legacy is it legal to use both of these cards, i.e. 3 Togashi and 3 Hoshi? Or are they considered the same person for construction purposes, i.e in SE or Legacy you would use either one and they would be the same?
A: Why don't you ask the Legacy council?
http://www.jadehand.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=33 Zen Faulkes, "Togashi and Hoshi Masujiro, are they the same in Legacy?", 12 Aug 2007 - Q: Will my copies of "Hoshi Masujiro" and "The Wrath of Osano-Wo" be considered official proxies of the cards "Togashi Masujiro" and "Wrath of Osano-Wo", respectively, for samurai legal deck construction?
A: They're not proxies, they're previous printings. Previous printings are always legal. Zen Faulkes, "Masujiro and Wrath", 9 Aug 2007 - Q: It looks like Hoshi Oki and Hoshi Masujiro moved to be Togashi Oki and Togashi Masujiro. Is this a MRP change, or is it something they just didn't reference? They use the same art, and the Hoshi versions don't show up on a search for 'Dragon' clan and 'Personality' in the Oracle. They're not completely identical, Hoshi Oki doesn't have the Tattooed trait.
A: Togashi Masujiro is definitely a MRP-name-change. Oki is a little grayer, since her Togashi version was really never legal outside of War of Honor. Still, despite that, I would say the Togashi would still be her MRP in Open/Modern Format; the War of Honor cards didn't have any sort of Seige of Sleeping Moutnain exception to them being MRPs that I can recall offhand. Anyone who's read the WoH Rulebook more recently ( @kempy_nezumi ?) can correct me if they wish. 🙂 Brook Cunningham, "Oracle of the Void #rules", 5 Mar 2023
