- Erratum: Reads, "Togashi Yoshi 1F/2C 0HR 6G 2PH Dragon Clan Shugenja. Reaction: Immediately after one of your Personalities enters a duel, but before the first focus, bow Yoshi to draw and discard a Fate card. The Personality gains Chi equal to the card's Focus value. The card is not considered a Focus card." [MRP, Imperial Herald promo] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 129
- The drawn card is not affected by Double Chi, and cards that affect duels when played as Focus cards produce no effects when exposed in this manner. [Card text] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 129
- The bonus always applies to Chi, regardless of what stat the duel is based on. [FAQ] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 129
- The extra card is not treated as a Focus. It simply provides a turn-long bonus to the duelist's Chi equal to the exposed card's focus value. This bonus is not affected by Double Chi, and cards which affect duels when played as Focus cards produce no effects when exposed in this manner. - Q: How can I tell if an action is targeted? A: There are two things to check. Some will actually tell you. For the rest, you have to consider whether you ever have to decide what the action affects or references. If an action is ever targeted, it is always considered a targeted action, even in situations where there is only one thing it may be played on. For example, Iaijutsu Duel starts a duel between one attacking and one defending Personality. Since the rules of the game allow both attacking and defending armies to contain any number of Personalities, Iaijutsu Duel targets both of them. Because it is a targeted action, it is considered targeted even in battles where there is only one unit on both sides and your selections are forced. On the other hand, Togashi Yoshi's reaction is used when one of your Personalities enters a duel. Since duels can only be fought between Personalities belonging to different people, and since the game rules do not allow starting multiple duels simultaneously, you will never have more than one Personality who can receive Yoshi's bonus at any given instant. Yoshi's effect is therefore not targeted. The Imperial Herald, Issue 10, p. 11
- Q: A couple cards, like The Second Shout, say their focus adds to your duelist's Chi as normal. What if the duel isn't a duel of Chi? A: Then it adds to whatever the duel is based on. This is true of anything that "counts as a Focus" or "adds to Chi as normal". There are some Chi-changing, duel-related effects such as Togashi Yoshi that don't have one of these two magic phrases in them. These always affect Chi. The Imperial Herald, Vol. 1, Issue 4, p. 9
Rules Q&A
- Q: For Togashi Mitsu (exp) and Mitsu (exp)... I read the spoiler for Mitsu (exp), and it didn't say he counted as Togashi Mitsu (exp). For Togashi Yoshi (exp) and Yoshi (exp)... I read the spoiler for Yoshi (exp), and it didn't say he counted as Togashi Yoshi (exp).
A: See entries in Rules Archive, Specific cards, Personalities (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings/#Personalities) for both these cards. They were renamed. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 26 September 2003", 27 Sep 2003 - Q: Can Togashi Yoshi use his innate ability when entering the Test of the Jade Champion? This came up in a game once, and I was able to convince the other player that he could not. So, he sent Hitomi E3 to the test instead (I am an honorable player, after all). Was I right, or should his Yoshi have been the inevitable winner. My challenger had four chi. Any idea?
A: The Test of the Jade Champion is not a duel. Card effects involving entering or being in a duel, or focusing IN A DUEL, may not be used. (Card effects involving focusing that don't make any mention of being in a duel are still legal.)
You were right. Yoshi can't react. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 30-31 March 2001", 6 Apr 2001 - Q: Hi Guys!
Just wanted to clarify the timing on these two personalities.
Yoshi Reads:
Text Dragon Clan Shugenja Reaction: When a Personality you control is “entering a duel”, you may bow this card to draw and reveal your top Fate Card. Add its Focus Value to that Personality's Chi until the end of the turn. (Clarification: The revealed card is discarded, and is not treated as a Focus.)
while
Mirumoto Reads:
“Before the first focus or strike of a duel Mirumoto is in”, set his Chi to the other Personality's Chi. The other Personality loses Double Chi. Mirumoto focuses first, with 1 or 2 cards, and must focus if able. These effects end when the duel ends.
my question is would yoshi's ability pump mirumoto's Chi before or after the first focus/strike? so will his chi be equal to his opponent because of his trait or will it be increased by yoshi's ability? which happens first?
Thanks!
A: Yoshi's Reaction would pump Mirumoto's chi before Mirumoto's trait sets it to that of his opponent in the duel.
See Challenges and duels: In a duel, headings A through L occur in sequence. A: The duel begins: This is the same point that both Personalities enter the duel. The two Personalities are now facing each other in the duel. B: Focus Pool: The challenger, then the challenged, each form a focus pool. C: Focusing round: The challenged player has the first opportunity to focus or strike. ...
Yoshi's Reaction triggers in step A. Mirumoto's trait triggers in step C. Alex Jones, "Mirumoto and Togashi Yoshi", 5 Oct 2011
