Rules Q&A
- Q: I'm a sneaky Scorpion as well, and Show of Good Faith his P'an Ku, and use his ability to copy the "Loyal" trait of my own Bayushi Paneki - thus, P'an Ku loses the Scorpion affiliation, and if nothing else happens, I'll keep him forever.
A: Sure. That's sounds like fun. Martin Lund, "Rules for 9 December 2004", 12 Dec 2004 - Q: This question is mainly about Paneki's Disgrace and Bayushi Paneki in CE.
If I have both in my provinces, can I bring Bayushi Paneki and overlay the Disgrace? I'm not sure if the title must be the same to overlay or just the Experienced version.
Relevant Text: Paneki's Disgrace Shadowlands • Undead • Samurai • Tactician • Plague • Experienced 6 Bayushi Paneki • Unique
Bayushi Paneki Scorpion Clan • Clan Champion • Samurai • Tactician • Hero • Experienced 5 • Loyal • Unique
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_E#Experienced: "Keep in mind that an Experienced card's alternate title also regulates his or her capacity to enter play and change control.
"Example: A player who controls a Unique version of The Golden Ronin with the keyword “Experienced Matsu Ichi” can not bring the Unique non-Experienced version of Matsu Ichi into play, or take control of another player’s Unique version of “Matsu Ichi.”"
I could just as easily rewrite the example:
"Example: A player who controls a Unique version of Paneki's Dissgrace with the keyword “Experienced 5 Bayushi Paneki” can not bring the Unique Experienced 5 version of Bayushi Paneki into play, or take control of another player’s Unique version of “Bayushi Paneki.”" Zen Faulkes, "Overlaying and Uniqueness", 16 May 2011 - Q: Regional Treasurer states :Bow this card : Produce 2 gold OPEN: Bow this card: Straighten your target Samurai Personality. Until your next turn ends, he does not straighten.
I used Regional Treasurer to straighten Bayushi Paneki during my opponent's Action Phase. I defended with Paneki. The battle ended and Paneki survived and we went into my turn. Paneki was already unbowed during my Straightening Phase, so during my Attack Phase, I assigned him to combat. As a result of Battle Resolution, Paneki bowed. I then followed the Phases and ended my turn. On my oppenent's Action Phase I used Regional Treasure to ready Paneki. My opponent claimed that this was not possible, as I had used Regional Treasurer during his last turn. I maintain that it was legal as my full turn had transpired between uses.
Could someone give me a ruling on this? The way I am using it is an important mechanic in my deck, and I need to know if it is legal to use it in this way. If my description is confusing, let me konw and I will try to clarify.
A: You are correct. As long as 1 of your full turns passes between each use of Regional Treasurer, the Regional Treasurer's ability will straighten your Samurai Personality. Dan Jacobson, "Regional Treasurer", 10 Aug 2009 - Q: Bayushi Paneki x4 and Bayushi Kaukatsu x2 are triggered traits
A: That's completely true. Paneki is not an appropriate example as he does not modify an Action's effects or costs at all. I've amended that statement. However, there are effects like those of the Crab's Strength, Kuni Daigo, or Shosuro Kamatari that all add additional costs to actions when you play them. Cards like "Deeds, Not Words" similarly add additional effects to actions whenever they resolve. You don't take any those additional costs or effects into consideration when you look for a card in a hand or discard pile with that particular cost or effect due to Blind Cards. Martin Lund, "Lies, Lies, Lies... + Spider's Lair", 1 May 2008 - Q: OK, so according to this :http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=64251
In Legacy, I have Bayushi Paneki XP2 in play, and I overlay with Bayushi Paneki XP4
Bayushi Paneki trait says : While Paneki is in play, X happens. As he is still considered in play and the effect is ongoing, the trait should still work on the overlay right? So my opponent hand should be still face-up.
Am I getting the rules correctly here?
A: That's it, yes. Zen Faulkes, "Legacy overlay question", 29 Dec 2007 - Q: Can you focus, tactian, discard as costs etc etc using (Bayushi Paneki, Experienced 2?)
A: No. Note I am only answering about Paneki (see here). Zen Faulkes, ""Playing cards"", 21 Mar 2005 - Q: Quick question about his ability to play cards from other players' hands.
Can this be used to, say, play a Call to Arms from an opponents hand after someone declares an attack?
-KK-
A: Yes. "During an attack" means the whole Attack Phase. Zen Faulkes, "Bayushi Paneki", 3 Mar 2005
