Rules Q&A
- Q: I looking for clarifiction when two card are opossite :
Event resolve : Too Close to Home: You may choose and destroy a Region. Until your next turn begins, negate all movement to and from battlegrounds.
I declare attack , assign few personality
and my oponent start to use : The Shadow's Lair: Ninja Battle: Once per battle, even if this card is bowed and even if you control no units at the current battlefield, target one or more unopposed units with combined total Force of 9 or lower, or one opposed unit: Move each target home; this will not be negated or delayed if you control a Ninja.
Are my personality will be moved froma battle ?
how about same situation when my oponent start to use : Suitengu's Torch : Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Personality and target an enemy Personality: Move him home. while react with Suitengu's Torch : Reaction: After you announce a Thunder Battle action: Its effects will not be negated or delayed.
Are my personality will be moved from battle ? I try to find in rules forum topic for this combination ... but I cannot.
A: "Will not be negated" will always trump "negate" - that's the purpose of writing "will not be negated". Please see Effects prevention in the CR. Jon Palmer, "Too Close to Home + The Shadow's Lair / Suitengu's Torch", 12 Nov 2012 - Q: This is a simple question about cost negation vs the Good Faith Rule, but since the Good Faith Rule tends to be a bit fuzzy I just want to confirm.
Situation: The event Too Close to Home has resolved, negating all movement to and from battlefields. In battle, my opponent wants to move home with Wall of Honor. The movement obviously fails, but does that mean the cost was not paid and the rest of the action fails? Does the Good Faith Rule prevent him from even announcing the action? Or does the action work?
This is the most recent ruling I can see that is relevant, but I want to make sure nothing has changed since CE. http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=95377&p=1265644&hilit=costs+negated#p1265644
Too Close to Home: You may choose and destroy a Region. Until your next turn begins, negate all movement to and from battlegrounds.
Wall of Honor: Battle: Move your performing opposed Personality home: Increase or decrease the strength of the current battlefield's province by an amount equal to the number of units on the enemy side there. Gain 2 Honor.
A: Nothing has changed here since Celestial Edition.
You may not announce an action whose cost you cannot pay, including costs that you cannot pay because they will be negated by existing effects. See Good Faith Rule: Aspects of the game state are taken into account in determining legality under the Good Faith Rule, such as effects that reduce costs, prevent costs from being paid, or relax requirements. Alex Jones, "Wall of Honor vs Too Close to Home", 28 Jun 2012 - Q: [EE] Too Close to Home. Would it negate assigning to battlefields? my guess is no. Would it negate the use of Imperial Favor to send a personality home? my guess is yes.
A: Your guesses are correct. Assigning is not considered movement. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 19 Jun 2025
