Rules Q&A
- Q: I have a question in a similar line. Can Toritaka Kitao(can't spell diamond legal guy off top off my head.)attach the scimitar and still be honorable since he cancels the action dishonoring him not the attachment?
A: Yes, Hiruma Ashihei can successfully attach Senpet Scimitar. None of the effects of the Action dishonor him. The trait of the card being attached dishonors him, and that's not part of any Action.
Same deal with Force Bonuses from Items when you attach them - they don't qualify as "A Force Bonus from an Action." Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 May 2004", 4 Jun 2004 - Q: 1.) I have a 2 chi personality. I play nemesis, targeting him and Toritaka Kitao., and I play iaijutsu art, pitting himself against toritaka kitao. Because of nemesis, my peep gets a +2f+3c bonus and enters the duel, right?
A: Right. Jeff Alexander, "post for 30 September 2002", 1 Oct 2002 - Q: Depends on whether it is decided that Genshuo's trait cancels or negates the Force bonuses.
If Genshuo's trait negates the Force bonus part of the action, it just wouldn't allow him to gain the Force bonus. So he would gain +2F, which his trait would negate, then he would be dishonored, the player of Frenzy would still lose 2 honor, and Genshuo would still have to destroy all attached followers at the end of the turn. So in short, negating one effect (Force bonus), does not negate the other effects of the action.
On the cancellation side, the Rules Team could interpret this as an extension of Toritaka Kitao ruling, who cannot be dishonored, and therefore cancels all actions that would dishonor him including Frenzy and refused Iai Challenges.
A: There is no special ruling on Toritaka Kitao regarding this. There is only his text, which specifically calls for cancelation of the entire action rather than just preventing his dishonoring. So there is no issue of "deciding that Genshuo's trait cancels or negates the Force bonuses" -- it negates them, which is the standard result. Jeff Alexander, "post for 2 May 2002", 3 May 2002
