- May bring another player's Scorpion Personality into his battle. [JA, 18 December 2001] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 93
Rules Q&A
- Q: I'm a sneaky Scorpion as well, and Show of Good Faith his P'an Ku, and use his ability to copy the "Loyal" trait of my own Bayushi Paneki - thus, P'an Ku loses the Scorpion affiliation, and if nothing else happens, I'll keep him forever.
A: Sure. That's sounds like fun. Martin Lund, "Rules for 9 December 2004", 12 Dec 2004 - Q: If I test of might a 0 chi Chagatai, I can overconf him as soon as he focus right ? Since a Focus value is minimum 0.
A: You cannot. According to the archives, known maximum/minimum values don't matter either. Martin Lund, "Rules for 5 November 2004", 8 Nov 2004 - Q: Bayushi Paneki XP ignores them, so with him even dishonored he c an attach any follower right?
A: Correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2002", 30 Oct 2002 - Q: C) May I move Bayushi Paneki (Exp.)/Hitomi Kagetora (Exp.) move himself from another battle to the current??
A: No, because they both refer to "this battle". They both must be in the current battle to make their abilities legal. Jeff Alexander, "post for 6 May 2002", 7 May 2002 - Q: Jeff's last statement about Bayushi Paneki: "AND his battle must be the current one." comes into conflict with this.
Is this going to be a reversal, or just a misunderstanding?
A: The exact definition of "this battle" is something I already had on the back burner to discuss with the Rules Team. Time to move it to the front, I guess. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 January 2002", 12 Jan 2002 - Q: Holla, Can Bayushi Paneki move himself into a battle using his ability to move a scorpion personality into a battle?
A: No. He moves one into "this battle", which means he must already be there himself -- AND his battle must be the current one. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 January 2002", 11 Jan 2002 - Q: Personalities that are Loyal can only "join" clans of the same clan alignment. Does this mean that, for example, a Lion Clan player could not bring Bayushi Paneki into play from their dynasty because he is Loyal and Scorpion Clan? Or does the Loyal keyword only work as to make sure that one player's cards cannot be taken control of by other players? Or both? Thanks. [:
A: From the Comprehensive Rules: A Personality with the Loyal keyword will not become controlled by a player who does not share a Clan alignment with that Personality - either by bringing into play or by changing control. Jon Palmer, "Loyal Keyword Question", 22 Dec 2011 - Q: This question is mainly about Paneki's Disgrace and Bayushi Paneki in CE.
If I have both in my provinces, can I bring Bayushi Paneki and overlay the Disgrace? I'm not sure if the title must be the same to overlay or just the Experienced version.
Relevant Text: Paneki's Disgrace Shadowlands • Undead • Samurai • Tactician • Plague • Experienced 6 Bayushi Paneki • Unique
Bayushi Paneki Scorpion Clan • Clan Champion • Samurai • Tactician • Hero • Experienced 5 • Loyal • Unique
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_E#Experienced: "Keep in mind that an Experienced card's alternate title also regulates his or her capacity to enter play and change control.
"Example: A player who controls a Unique version of The Golden Ronin with the keyword “Experienced Matsu Ichi” can not bring the Unique non-Experienced version of Matsu Ichi into play, or take control of another player’s Unique version of “Matsu Ichi.”"
I could just as easily rewrite the example:
"Example: A player who controls a Unique version of Paneki's Dissgrace with the keyword “Experienced 5 Bayushi Paneki” can not bring the Unique Experienced 5 version of Bayushi Paneki into play, or take control of another player’s Unique version of “Bayushi Paneki.”" Zen Faulkes, "Overlaying and Uniqueness", 16 May 2011 - Q: In reference to this question about overlaying.
I am sorry but I don't understand Zen's answer. The new rule about overlaying only refers to ongoing effects. Isn't Bayushi Paneki Experienced 2's first trait more continuous than ongoing ? I read the "Duration of effects" rules and it seems to me that the sentence "Other players' hands are face-up while Paneki is in play" looks like a non-triggered trait (with a condition), which means a continuous one, doesn't it ?
Thanks for your time.
A: Hm. I missed that the Experienced 2 Bayushi Paneki's trait is not an ongoing effect, so doesn't fall under the current rule. Thanks for the catch. Zen Faulkes, "Legacy overlay question", 29 Dec 2007 - Q: OK, so according to this :http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=64251
In Legacy, I have Bayushi Paneki XP2 in play, and I overlay with Bayushi Paneki XP4
Bayushi Paneki trait says : While Paneki is in play, X happens. As he is still considered in play and the effect is ongoing, the trait should still work on the overlay right? So my opponent hand should be still face-up.
Am I getting the rules correctly here?
A: That's it, yes. Zen Faulkes, "Legacy overlay question", 29 Dec 2007
