Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Toturi’s Tactics 0G 2FV Reaction: After the resolution of a Battle action on a Strategy you played, target your Tactician: The card is placed on top of your Fate deck instead of in the discard pile." [MRP, Celestial Edition, 29 June 2009] Comprehensive Rules, Celestial Edition, with specific card rulings, final version, February 2012, p. 159
- If this action is taken after the resolution of a Battle action on a Terrain Strategy card you played, the card is placed on top of its owner's Fate deck whenever it would enter a discard pile this turn, usually immediately before the battle ends. Rules Q&A
- Q: I ask this because it has been ruled before that the playing of the fetched card is part of SS's effect (following a previous question about Toturi's Tactics)......I'm not sure if there's a window of opportunity here to react with the Lion Scout to give the double use of Tactician.
A: The Tactician trait is considered "used" as soon as the action begins resolving without being canceled. (Just as important is the fact that the Lion Scout's Reaction happens "when" Tactician is used, not "after". If it said "after", the answer would be different, because then you would need to wait for the entire thing to resolve before reacting with the Scout.) Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 March 2002", 9 Mar 2002 - Q: I asked this one a while ago and it must have been lost in the wash. I have always liked to recycle my SS's with TT. Does this work? Does my SS go straight to the top of the Fate deck after playing TT before I fetch the Open or Battle action......meaning it gets shuffled away, making the whole exercise pointless? Or does SS resolve after the fetched action is pulled and itself resolved (the wording in the accumulated rulings used to say that playing the fetched action was part of SS's effect), meaning I can return SS to the top of the deck with TT after shuffling? Confusing but relevant.
A: The shuffling is the last part of Superior Strategist's effect. Toturi's Tactics doesn't get played until all of SS's effects resolve, so it goes on after the shuffling. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 15-16 September 2001", 17 Sep 2001 - Q: Can you use Toturi's Tactics to bring back a Battle/Open strategy if you used it for its Open action?
A: No.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Abilities_and_a ... esignators: "Abilities with two designators, such as “Open/Battle,” count as having both individual designators, but the action they generate has only one designator, according to when the action was taken." Emphasis added. Zen Faulkes, "Toturi's Tactics and Battle/Opens", 25 Jun 2011 - Q: Toturi's Tactics Reaction: After the resolution of a Battle action on a Strategy you played, target your Tactician: The card is placed on top of your Fate deck instead of in the discard pile.
Tactical, Tactician: An action with the Tactical keyword can only be performed by a Tactician Personality (see “Perform,” p. 35). Each Tactician can only perform one Tactical action per turn.
It seems to me that Toturi's Tactics WON't use up the targets tactician as it has no Tactical Keyword. Please confirm whether this is correct or not.
A: It is not a Tactical action and does not count towards the on per turn use. Zen Faulkes, "Does Toturi's Tactics use Tactician?", 5 Jul 2009
