- Erratum: Reads, "Tsuma Dojo 2G Singular. Bow this card: Produce 2 Gold, or produce 3 Gold if paying for a Duelist Personality. Reaction: Before you focus from your focus pool, put a card in your focus pool on the bottom of your deck: Focus with a card from your Fate discard pile instead. Remove that card from the game when the duel ends." [MRP, Lotus Edition, 31 October 2005] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 87

Rules Q&A
- Q: 7) With Tsuma Dojo can I play a Smoke and MIrrors or The Shadow's Claw from my discard pile?
A: Not for an Action, no. Tsuma Dojo says, "Focus with it instead of with a card from your hand." That means it gives you the ability to - FOCUS - with the card, not to take Actions on the card. You can play them face-down for their Focus Values only.
It is good with Kharmic Strike, but bad with Smoke and Mirrors or The Shadow's Claw. Martin Lund, "Rules for 24 January 2005", 31 Jan 2005 - Q: 9) Kakita again: can I focus two cards and the third with Tsuma Dojo?
A: Sure. Kakita doesn't care where the cards are coming from. Tsuma Dojo says that you use a card in the Discard Pile instead of a card from your hand. That works fine. Martin Lund, "Rules for 24 January 2005", 31 Jan 2005 - Q: "Tsuma Dojo only grants you the ability to - Focus - with a card in the Discard Pile. It does not say that you may take any Action on that card as if the card were in your hand."
Yeah but Wear Him Down isn't an action, it's an effect.
A: [MARTY] The first line in the text box of "Wear Him Down" is "Reaction:" in Bold Text.
If that "isn't an action," then something is - seriously - wrong or I missed an Erratum. Martin Lund, "Rules for 9 December 2004", 12 Dec 2004 - Q: Tsuma Dojo Are cards focused using Tsuma Dojo considered as if you focused it from your hand? Could Kakita still focus 2 more cards if using the reaction off of Tsuma? And would he be rehonored from a Tsuma'd Fortune's Smile?
A: No. They are not considered to have been Focused from your hand. Tsuma Dojo lets Focus a card that isn't in your hand in the stead of a card from your hand. It can be one of the 3 cards you use in Kakita's focus - and you will focus it face-down like any other card you focus.
Yes, traits on the Focused card would still trigger, such as Fortune's Smile. Martin Lund, "Rules for 6 December 2004", 10 Dec 2004 - Q: Are cards focused using Tsuma Dojo considered as if you focused it from your hand?
A: They aren't focused from your hand, nor do they count as such. They are merely used to focus. Martin Lund, "Rules for 4 Decemeber 2004", 9 Dec 2004 - Q: Quote:

Doesn't that imply that the focussed card has to be one of the 5 that you looked at?
Normally, yes, but The Shadow's Clan is played instead of focusing (Archive, The Shadow's Claw). Also, remember that in this scenario, the second copy of The Shadow's Claw is in your hand, not one of the cards looked at.
Does this mean I can draw 5 and then focus using my Tsuma Dojo?
A: That would follow logically from what Marty wrote (here).
I didn't see this one until it came up to go in the Digest.
The important part here is the exact text of Tsuma Dojo and Shadow's Claw.
Tsuma Dojo says, "Focus with it instead of with a card from your hand."
Shadow's Claw does not have you focus with a card from your hand, but rather a card from the top of your deck. You can't use Tsuma Dojo's effect to replace it.

Deputy Rules Monkey Zen Faulkes, "Last Shadows Claw Question", 30 Mar 2005 - Q: Does this mean I can draw 5 and then focus using my Tsuma Dojo?
A: That would follow logically from what Marty wrote (here). Zen Faulkes, "Last Shadows Claw Question", 19 Mar 2005 - Q: May I use Smoke and Mirrors instead of focusing ability when using it in conjunction with Tsuma Dojo.
A: This sentence is vague. I'm guessing you want to pull Smoke and Mirrors of of the discard pile then use its ability. No. Tsuma Dojo tells you what you can do with the targeted card -- "use an action printed on it" isn't one. Zen Faulkes, "Smoke and Mirrors and Tsuma Dojo", 28 Feb 2005 - Q: Could Chee'trr use its reaction if it was in a discard pile as well?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Smoke and Mirrors and Tsuma Dojo", 28 Feb 2005
