Rules Q&A
- Q: This was answared before but some advervasaries made me think otherwise. Can Castle of the Wasp and No hidding place use Tsuruchi technique???
To do the ranged not to just raise?
A: "Once per battle, you may target the current Province with a Ranged Attack from exactly one of your attacking cards to lower its Strength by the Attack¹s strength."
To use this effect, you have to be the Attacker or an attacking ally, and the ranged attack must be an uncombined ranged attack coming from one of your cards in the attacking army. Tsuruchi Technique is not in your attacking army -- it is a card played from your hand. It doesn't combo with the City. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 20 Feb. 2004", 21 Feb 2004 - Q: I was then assuming Castle of the Wasp lets me target a province with a range attack, combined or not, from my attacking unit, then I got to the words "exactly ONE of your attacking cards" which made me think I was wrong. Then, after reading one of the posts at the Kobune Port where they discussed that the Tsuruchi followers are a threat to provinces, it made me think that perhaps I was initially correct. So what really does Castle of the Wasp do?
A: Just what it says, of course! ;)
Copying Jeff's answer for the record: "Once per battle, when you make an uncombined ranged attack from one card in your attacking army, you may target it at the defending Province to reduce its strength by the ranged attack's strength. (You MAY modify the strength of this attack with Reactions -- this does not cause the attack to come from more than one card.)
"Once per turn, when one of your Mantis Clan Personalities in your army makes an uncombined ranged attack or adds to a combined ranged attack, and that attack targets a card in the opposing army, your Personality doesn't need to bow. (This may not combine with the first benefit because Provinces are not in the opposing army.)" Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 22 September 2003, Part 2", 23 Sep 2003 - Q: Also, do I gain honor if I buy other Yoritomo Alliance personalities for full gold cost (i.e. Tsuruchi)?
A: Of course. Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 April 2002", 16 Apr 2002 - Q: On Tsuruchi and his Soul Of, do they both become Ranged 3s?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 April 2002", 2 Apr 2002 - Q: Can you take reactions with cards in play that are not at the current battlefield :
Example: I use Tsuruchi daikyu's ranged 5 attack to target and destroy Kitsune Tokoru's bear, who's defending, and my opponent Reacts with Taming the Beast to negate it's destruction.
Can that spell's reaction be used while not at the current battlefield?
A: Reactions are not bound by the Rule of Location, nor are spells as a card type by default (Battle actions on spells still are). Taming the Beast's reaction can be used from another location. Jon Palmer, "Using Reactions and locations", 20 Feb 2012 - Q: If I'm attacking with a Yoritomo Random at province 1 and with Tsuruchi Random at province 2 and I have the chance to go first on both battles (let's assume it's cause I have naval). If I resolve at province 1 and as my first battle action I attach a item on my Yoritomo peep there and chose not to make a aditional battle action. At province 2 if attach a card to my Tsuruchi peep can I now get a aditional battle action even if that were not my first battle action that attached something?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Eastern Hub Port and First Attachment.", 11 Sep 2007
