Rules Q&A
- Q: Have a little problem.
In rulerbook it is whriten that if personality can't perform actions it also can't perform actions from items that are atteched to it. How it works for ex. if I have bowed personality with this item http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=8823,#hashid=b46f2e5aff3491346ee6149db5532ec4,#cardcount=33 Tsuruchi Daikyu can I use it's abillity even when my perso. is bowed?
And second one: If I have action that bow's a unit does it also bows items in that unit or just perosnalitys and follower ie: does items are also a part of unit?
Best regards
A: You may use the ability on a Tsuruchi Daikyu when its Personality is bowed.
Your logic would appear to be:
1. Abilities on bowed cards may not be used - True, see Abilities. 2. In particular, abilities on bowed Personalities may not used be used - True, from 1. 3. Actions from abilities on Personalities are performed by the Personality - True, see Perform. 4. Thus, bowed Personalities may not perform actions from abilities on them - True, from 2 & 3. 5. Actions from abilities on Items and Spells are performed by the Personality to whom they are attached - True, see Perform again. 6. Thus, abilities on Items and Spells attached to a Personality who may not perform actions may not be used - True, from 4 & 5. 7. A bowed Personality may not perform actions - False, this does not follow from 4. 8. Thus, bowed Personalities may not perform actions from abilities on Items and Spells attached to them - False, would follow from 6 & 7, but the latter is false.
A unit is made up of a Personality and all his or her attached cards, so an effect that bows a unit bows the Personality and any Followers, Items or Spells attached to him. Alex Jones, "items on bowed personalitys", 23 Apr 2012 - Q: I came across the following in the EE Rules Glossary today:
"Ranged Attack targeting occurs during action resolution and so is not required (see Abilities and actions, Required targeting). In other words, a Ranged Attack’s target or targets need not be legal or exist in order to announce the action. "
So say I have a personality with Tsuruchi Daikyu, unopposed, at the present battlefield. I already took 3 battle actions this battle. Can I announce the RA from the bow, have it "fizzle" due to the no valid targets, yet still count as resolved (since *required* targeting and costs were paid) to satisfy the 4th and thus Ring of Water's entering play condition?
Somehow it doesn't seem right...
A: This is perfectly legal, as of Emperor Edition.
Previously, the target of a Ranged Attack was (generally) a required target of the action, so if there were no legal targets, the action could not be announced. However, as of Emperor Edition, required targets are exactly those specified in the constraints block: targeting in the effects block is not covered by Required Targeting.
