Rules Q&A
- Q: Let's say that I am playing Crane & Unfortunate Incident was used on me bringing me down to 2 honor and causing me to be able to ignore honor requirements when bringing Personalities into play.
What amount of gold do I have to pay to gain the honor from Kakita Kensho-in (experienced) entering play during my dynasty phase?
A: You would have to pay her base cost of 8 Gold.
Though the option to pay two more Gold to ignore a Personality's Honor Requirement and the option to pay two less Gold in lieu of the Honor gain may both be taken during the Dynasty Phase, they are independent of one another. Even though you are already ignoring her Honor requirement via another effect, that has no bearing on taking the two-Gold discount or not to gain her Honor. Brook Cunningham, "ignoring honor requirements & dynasty honor gains", 25 Dec 2010 - Q: If my opponent uses an Unfortunate Incident on me, how does that interact with buying personalities for honor?
A: Not at all. Cost and honor gains are all done as normal.
What a player decides to pay for a Personality does not depend on honor requirements.
What a player decides to pay for a Personality can affect honor requirements, though.
See the wording here: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Sequence_of_play#Dynasty_Phase Zen Faulkes, "Unfortunate Incident and Buying for Honor", 14 Jan 2010 - Q: If I play a single Unfortunate Incident, can I react with 2 Dirty Politics to negate the honour loss and gain a total of 10 honour?
A: No. Your first Dirty Politics resolves before you would have an opportunity to play another. But, since the first negates the Honor loss, there is no longer any trigger for another to be played. "Before another player loses Honor" isn't happening any more because your first Dirty Politics negated the loss. Brook Cunningham, "Unfortunate Incident and multiple Dirty Politics", 12 Jun 2008
