Rules Q&A
- Q: I want to ask about Personalities like Shosuro Mikado, Utaku Jamaira, Agasha Miyoshi, and other with similar traits like "Costs X less Gold if ..."
Normally, traits do not apply if the card where the trait is written are not in play. But this Personalities gets the Cost reduction because of "obvious legality rule". Is it true?
A: It isn't a matter of Obvious Legality. It has been clarified / errata'd directly:
"While traits of a card are always active, even while the card is not in play, the traits of a card that is not in play do not affect anything except that card itself. [Dawn of the Empire rulesheet erratum, JA, 8 November 2004]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Traits") Martin Lund, "Rules for 15 December 2004", 22 Dec 2004 - Q: 1) Utaku Jamaira adds +1 to the personal honor of "all your Unicorn personalities". I presume this means "in play", or does it add to the personalities in your provinces as well?
A: [MARTY] Cards in your Provinces don't qualify as "your Unicorn personalities." "Your card" indicates that you are the controller of the card. Martin Lund, "Rules for 7 May 2004", 9 May 2004 - Q: I have a question about the intent of Jamaira. If my opponent has Doji Kurohito in play, is Jamaira's Honor Requirement -1 and her Gold Cost 4. Should there be a clause referring to "your Personalities" or "sharing a Faction alignment with Jamaira".
A: Not that I can see. I says specifically both "in play" instead of "yours" and "a Faction alignment" instead of "Unicorn Clan" or whatever. Seems very clear. Martin Lund, "Rules for May 4, 2004", 7 May 2004
