Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi,
I just want some clarification since I see a lot of people doing this (which I think is wrong), but they're saying that they have some online reference for the ruling.
1) Player A declares an attack. No assignment on Province A, he assigns Uzaki no Oni on B. 2) Player A resolves Province A first, using Uzaki no Oni's ability to move him to the province.
Is this legal?
Thanks!
Uzaki no Oni Battle: Target another Nonhuman Personality. Straighten him or move him to the current battlefield.
A: No.
Uzaki no Oni's ability will never be legal if he is not at the current battlefield, due to the Rules of Location and Presence. Dan Jacobson, "Uzaki no Oni", 27 Apr 2010 - Q: An attack is declared and the Attacker assigns generic nonhuman(x) to Battlefield C, and Uzaki no Oni to Battlefield B. If the attacker chooses to resolve battlefield A first he cannot move generic nonhuman(x) to Battlefield A using the ability on Uzaki no Oni. Correct?
A: Correct, due to the second part of the Rule of Location (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Battles#Rule_of_Location): "If a Battle action is on a card in a unit (a Personality or attachment in play)" -- which is the case with Uzaki no Oni -- "the unit must be at the current battlefield in order to take that action" (emphasis added). Zen Faulkes, "Uzaki no Oni", 25 Feb 2010 - Q: He could however use the ability to move him to Battlefield B when that Battle is being resolved and indeed from any location?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Uzaki no Oni", 25 Feb 2010
