Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi
Have a question about how long do think last. I know that some bonuses to the stats as some reaction last until turn ends but what about created personalitys or followers?
ex. Akodo Makotai http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=241,#hashid=ea667a0efe801ef60a0ca97262aeb1b9,#cardcount=0 when he create a follower will this follower last until the game ends or just to the turn ends? Can he create couple off those followers?
What about Venerable Master? http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=9131,#hashid=428d5747498864593fd696c97388ac2c,#cardcount=2 will this personality last until turn ends or will he live longer?
Thanks for quick reply
A: Created cards in general are permanent, unless an effect specifies a duration (such as the Personality created by Recruitment Officer). Jon Palmer, "created thinks", 20 Apr 2012 - Q: Also, let's say my target was a personality created with, say, Venerable Master. Would this make a difference?
A: No, the created card has still been destroyed (http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_D#Destroy) and the triggers are the same. Zen Faulkes, "Determination, Assigning Blame, created Personalities", 13 Oct 2008 - Q: Does creating a personality using the ability on Venerable Master satisfy the condition for the reaction on Wardens. i.e. Can I attach Wardens using its reaction when Venerable Master makes a created personality during the action phase.
A: Yes, since you've "[brought] a Personality into play without gaining Honour". Alex Jones, "Venerable Master + Wardens", 1 May 2008 - Q: If I use the Venerable Master Open action to create a personality while using the stronghold Maw's Grave is the token considered to be Unaligned?
A: Point: It is a created card, not a token.
It has no faction trait to gain, so it would be unaligned (http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_U#Unaligned). Zen Faulkes, "Venerable Master and Maw's Grave", 28 Apr 2008 - Q: This came up, and despite my Advanced Search - fu, I could not find a conclusive answer. I feel a bit silly asking, but here goes...
Political Open: Target another player's Personality. After the first time this turn he assigns to attack or is destroyed, gain 3 Honor.
I assign spud targeted by this (lets say a Venerable Master token) and in the battle they are killed.
Does the Crane player gain 3 for me assigning, or 6 (3 from assigning and 3 for offing him)
Once agian, I hate to ask this, but I need a conclusive answer, and my search-fu failed me.
A: The trigger for the effect "gain 3 Honour" is "he assigns to attack you or is destroyed". The phrase "the first time" means that the trigger is only effective once. Alex Jones, "Beniha wording question.", 15 Mar 2008 - Q: Do tokens that represent a card type like the Venerable Master personality token
A: It is not a token. "Create a 3F/3C/3PH Samurai Personality with your Clan alignment." Nowhere is the word token mentioned. Zen Faulkes, "Tokens that represent a card type", 9 Nov 2007 - Q: Regarding viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60498
It doesn't say 'card' either, hence the confusion.
Venerable Master, Farmlands and Matsu Benika all have abilities that can produce something that is neither a token or a card (unlike Hida Dayu's followers who have the 'card' trait), what should these be treated as?
A: This is from the post you linked to in your original question: "In Samurai Edition, follower, item or personality tokens cannot be created; cards are created instead." (Emphasis added.) Zen Faulkes, "RE: Tokens and Bowing 2", 14 Aug 2007 - Q: Regarding viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60485
This is directed at the rule that 'Tokens are neither bowed or unbowed'
Does this mean that a Venerable Master token will not bow after a battle resolution when it was attacking?
A: Venerable Master says, "Create a 3F/3C/3PH Samurai Personality with your Clan alignment."
The word "token" is nowhere to be seen.
Now read the post you linked to again. Look at the quoted rule. Closely. Zen Faulkes, "RE: Tokens and Bowing", 14 Aug 2007
