Rules Q&A
- Q: 5)We Will Have Revenge -> may be played if I have no personalities? and if I only have bowed personalities? and if may opponent don't have personalities?
A: No, no, no. You must target two Personalities, one of yours and one of his [card text]. Yours must be unbowed because it is your action. If you cannot satisfy both targets, you cannot take the action. Jeff Alexander, "post for 13 May 2003", 14 May 2003 - Q: And can he play Defend Your Honor or We Will Have Revenge on said honor loss?
A: No, and no. It's his action. Source does not change with redirection. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 22 April 2003", 23 Apr 2003 - Q: I have a resolved Suspicious and a Nagori in Play. My opponent has an unbowed Personality. After my Events Phase I use Nagori to increases my opponent's Honor loss. Could my opponent play We Will Have Revenge?
A: No. The loss is being caused by the event; Nagori is modifying it. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 16 April 2003, Part 1", 16 Apr 2003 - Q: Sorry again, just a clarification:
Can you use We Will Have Revenge after refusing an Ia Challenge? Yes.
Do I understand it right that the penalty for refusing the challenge (lose 7 honor and dishonor personality) is NOT a part of a duel but a consequence of the refusal, thus making it possible to play WWHR, because when you lose honor, the duel has ended (in fact, there has never been a duel) ?
Whether the loss is caused by a challenge, duel, or refusal is irrelevant. It's caused by the Iaijutsu Challenge CARD, and We Will Have Revenge cares about only that. (Defend Your Honor works the same way, and has for a long time.)
WWHR Card Text: ***************************************************** Reaction: Play after losing honor due to another player's action. Target one of your units and one of that player's units. Negate the honor loss. Your unit begins an attack against the other. No units can be assigned or move to the battle, and the battle cannot destroy a Province. The units cannot move to provinces from the battle. You cannot take this action during an attack or duel. *****************************************************
A: Okay, I can see I was slightly inaccurate in what I said -- it's not the card that matters, but the action. That doesn't change the answer I gave, though, since they both belong to the same player in this case. A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 February 2003", 4 Feb 2003 - Q: This means that We Will Have Revenge can cancel an honor loss caused by an opponent's Deeds and simultaneously allow you to ambush one of their personalities, am I reading that right? Sick.
A: That is not correct. Deeds, Not Words changes gains into losses but does not change any other aspect of the honor adjustment, including the source. The source of the loss remains whatever the source of the gain would have been. Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 August 2002", 11 Sep 2002 - Q: Text of card:

Will this trigger off of The Wind's Truth sending an honor loss my way?
A: The Wind's Truth does not change the source of the loss. If, and only if, the loss your opponent redirects to you came from one of her actions, you may react with We Will Have Revenge. (Which means you can't react to, say, the redirected loss from bringing a Corrupt Iron Mine into play.) Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 August 2002", 23 Aug 2002
