Rules Q&A
- Q: Bayushi Yokuan: reactions cannot be taken during the duel *against* him (e.g., *my opponent's* Bend Like a Reed and Shadow's Claw), but he CAN take reactions freely, correct?
A: Bayushi Yokuan says: "Reactions cannot be played during a challenge and/or duel involving Yokuan."
No Reactions. Period. This applies to every player, token, stronghold, and card in the game during that time period. No Reactions. None. Martin Lund, "Rules for 7 April 2004", 8 Apr 2004 - Q: Heres one...
Akodo Rokoru
Reaction : once per turn before one of your lion personalities bows due to another player's card effect, negate the bowing.
Shosuro Aroru
Scorpion Clan Duelist Ninja Soul of Bayushi Yokuan Followers Aroru attaches must be Ninja. A Personality must bow to refuse a challenge from Aroru. Players can take no Reactions to a challenge, refusal, or duel involving Aroru except Reactions that cancel the challenge or duel or occur after the duel.
If I target a lion players lion personality with IA Challenge while Rokuro is in play, will he be able to negate the bowing.
I ask because it looks to me like Aroru adds a cost to refusing the duel, can you still negate that cost and even if you could negate the bowing, can you in this instance with the rest of Aroru's text being no reactions?
A: Aroru does indeed add a cost to refusing a challenge, so Rokuro's Reaction is prohibited. Vaughn Derderian, "Post for June 19, 2003", 19 Jun 2003 - Q: "Reactions played before or with the action causing the challenge are legal, e.g., those that cancel it."
That means for example, if that a scorpion player accepts a challenge from Kakita Rensei, he can replace it with B. Kwanchai ?
A: No. Kwanchai is used "when any Scorpion Clan Personality enters a duel". That means:
An action creating a challenge has resolved... A challenge has been issued... The chalenge has been accepted... And a duel has started.
Restrictions against reactions "during" or while "in" a duel are very, very much in effect at this point. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 March 2003", 19 Mar 2003 - Q: 1) If I'm bringing to play a personality of my clan and another faction, but had choosed that another faction with the event Alliance, does the eprsonality costs 2 less gold? I mean: if I'm a Scorpion player and choose the clan "Ninja", does my Bayushi Yokuan will cost 6 gold? Did you understand it?
A: If you choose Ninja for Alliance, all your Ninja Personalities cost you 2g less when you buy them. That's cumulative with any other reduction, so Yokuan will cost you 6g at full price or 4g with the in-Clan discount. Jeff Alexander, "post for 9 November 2001", 10 Nov 2001 - Q: I have a question: If my Bayushi Yokuan issue a challenge to a opposing bowed personality wich controller have in play a Kuro Sensei, could he refuse it?
A: By extension of the Moto Gaheris/Winter Warfare/Block Supply Lines ruling: yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 9 October 2001", 9 Oct 2001 - Q: Oracle of Fire is played before the duel begins so I guess it's possible to play it in a duel involving Yokuan. Am I right?
A: No. Yokuan's trait also prohibits Reactions during the challenge, and there's no gap between challenge and duel. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 2-7 August 2001", 9 Aug 2001
