Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi there,
In a case an event's effects are negated using a card like Whispered Rumors, I will assume the event resolves either way giving me the chance to react with Lotus Blade and draw a card, right?
Thanks,
Javier
A: Correct. Brook Cunningham, "Lotus Blade + Whispered Rumors", 15 Mar 2011 - Q: Hi again,
I have a question regarding Event resolution. What happens if I flip an event, and pass upon the opportunity to react (for example with Avoid Fate) and my opponent then wants to react with Whispered Rumors. Can I still react with Avoid Fate, because opportunity to the original trigger passes back to me? What happens to the event? Is it negated by Whispered Rumors, or is it shuffled back by Avoid Fate? Or is this a case of active player decides?
Thank you!
A: Yes, since they both have the same timing, after your opponent reacts with Whispered Rumors, you can then choose to react with Avoid Fate.
Since Avoid Fate prevents the Event from resolving at all, there are no effects for Whispered Rumors to then negate, and nothing prevents it from being shuffled back per Avoid Fate's other effect. Brook Cunningham, "Event resolution (legacy)", 29 Nov 2010 - Q: Mirumoto Hakahime: Reaction: After Hakahime enters play from being attached to one of your Provinces: Search your Dynasty deck for an Event. Resolve it as if it were in that Province. Remove it from the game.
Whispered Rumors: Reaction: Before an Event resolves: Negate its effects.
I bring Hakahime into play from being attached to one of my Provinces and use her reaction to search and resolve an event. If the event is negated (by ex., with the whispered rumors' reaction), is it nevertheless remove from the game or discarded?
A: Still removed from the game, as that is due to Hakahime's effect, not the event's effects. Chris Fuchs, "Hakahime + event + negation", 24 Jul 2007 - Q: When Whispered Rumors negates the effects of an Event before it resolves, does the Event not resolve, or does it resolve and do nothing?
A: Why does it matter? I am wary of questions with no context.
Effect negation does not affect resolution. Zen Faulkes, "Whispered Rumors, negating effects, and event resolution", 16 Jun 2007 - Q: So whispered rumors vs avoid fate, etc. What's the downside minus the focus value? It just seems a whole lot more versatile when I'm reading it. Are events that stay in your home technically not resolving until used maybe?
A: With Whispered Rumours, the Event gets discarded With Avoid Fate, it gets reshuffled. Ie, it could turn up again next turn Alex Jones, "Oracle of the Void #rules", 10 Jun 2021
