- Erratum: Reads, "White Shore Plain 0G 1FV Delayed Terrain. Battle: Each Tactician in this battle who has not performed a Tactical action this battle gains Force equal to his Chi. This is considered a Force bonus from a Tactical action." [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 40
Rules Q&A
- Q: Is White Shore Plain a single bonus targeting all Tactician & all Tactical Actions targetting multiple targets considered a single action.
A: One action is anything with the word "Limited," "Open", "Battle" or "Reaction" in front of it, no matter how many effects it creates. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 December 2003, Part 2", 18 Dec 2003 - Q: White Shore Plain:
White Shore Plain Delayed Terrain Battle: Each Tactician who has not used the Tactician trait for this battle gains a Force bonus equal to his or her Chi. 4 Gold
Matsu Agetoki Exp.
Lion Clan Samurai. Experienced. Unique. Cavalry. This unit may not be targeted with Ranged Attacks. While Agetoki is in your army, you may play terrain cards face-down. Any face-down terrain card produces no effects until it is revealed at the end of the battle action phase.
When do you pay for White Shore Plain with Agetoki's Ability?
A: When you play it. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27 February 2003", 28 Feb 2003 - Q: I've a question regarding use of Lion Scout and White Shore Plain terrain. If i use one of my tacticians for something (superior strategist, ranged attack of Fujimaro, ...) and i use the reaction on Lion Scout, will they still gain force bonus through the terrain? I think not ('cause the wording on the terrain) but i want to be sure.
A: You won't get the terrain bonus. White Shore Plane looks at whether you've used the Tactician trait, not whether you've used it the maximum number of times. Jeff Alexander, "post for 20 January 2003", 21 Jan 2003 - Q: Akodo Yobi Reaction: Draw a card after playing a Terrain from your hand. This is a use of the Tactician trait.
Lion Scout Reaction: Bow when one of your Lion Clan Personalities uses the Tactician trait. The Personality may use the trait one additional time this battle, but it must be a use he or she did not use previously this battle.
White Shore Plain Delayed Terrain Battle: Each Tactician who has not used the Tactician trait for this battle gains a Force bonus equal to his or her Chi.
If I play a WSP and take Yobi's reaction to draw a card and also react with the lion scout for the tactican thing, will Yobi (Satomi and Fujimaro's abilities also spring to mind) still gain the force bonus from the WSP?
A: Lion Scout will not allow a Personality to take a Tactician action and still get a bonus from White Shore Plain. Lion Scout gives the Personality a second use of Tactician -- it does not erase the memory of his first use. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 August 2002", 29 Aug 2002 - Q: or Command Group all you tacticians?
I think you're thinking about a card other than Command Group. Command Group has nothing to do with Tacticians and doesn't look like it would cause any unusual problems when put in a combo with Samurai's Fury.
Sorry, that was supposed to be Signal Corp, not Command Group. Mostly for White Shore Plain/Samurai's Fury/Signal Corp/dump your fate hand for force.
A: That's legal too. Jeff Alexander, "post for 6 March 2002", 7 Mar 2002 - Q: Can you play White Shore Plain out of The Armor of Sun Tao without gold cost?
A: Nope. The Armor doesn't say that it changes the normal play of the terrain in any other way than destroying any terrain currently in play and making the Armored one indestructible. You still have to pay any costs associated with normal play of the terrain. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for", 19 Jul 2001 - Q: Hello everyone. I wanted to write and ask a couple of questions.
1. Does White Shore Plain target the tacticians who have not used there tactician trait?
A: White Shore Plain does not target anything. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 8 February 2001", 14 Feb 2001 - Q: My question is if I play White Shore Plain during a battle and my tactician who has not used his tactician trait gets a force bonus equal to his Chi at Battle Resolution, keep the force bonus until the end of the turn?
A: Yep. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for February 2nd", 3 Feb 2001 - Q: Given the subject line, the question should be pretty obvious. Does White Shore Plain provide a force bonus to personalities granted the tactician trait by Akodo sensei? Due to somewhat vague wording, it seems that decent arguements can be made for either yes or no. Whoever is doing rulings for now, any ideas?
A: Yeah, I've got a pretty good one. How about, White Shore Plain works perfectly well with personalities granted the Tactician trait by Akodo Sensei, because they aren't 'using' the trait to get the force bonus. WSP references the trait, sure, but it doesn't actually 'use' it, so Akodo Sensei doesn't care. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for January 6th", 6 Jan 2001 - Q: Does In Search of the Future decrease force bonuses from the stanard use of the Tactician trait to 0?
A: FAQ: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "In Search of the Future + tactician + White Shore Plain", 23 Mar 2005 - Q: If I play a white shore plain and then later play In Search of the Future do I gain the force bonuses?
A: "This does not affect bonuses gained after this card is played" (In Search of the Future text): Yes. Zen Faulkes, "In Search of the Future + tactician + White Shore Plain", 23 Mar 2005 - Q: Hello. The other day, while playing with a friend in extended Jade format, a situation arose. I attacked, and he played the terrain: "White Shore Plain." Battle Terrain: Each tactician who hasn't used the tactician trait for this battle gains strength equal to his or her chi. After the end of the battle, he played a counterattack, and he said that bonus lasted until the end of the turn since it was a use of a tactical ability.
Is this really the case? The question is: if the strength bonus is maintained until the end of the resolution where the terrain was, or if it is maintained until the end of the turn so that it is buffed in another battle when using the counterattack. I don't upload an image of the letter because the application doesn't let me or I don't have permissions.
A: Yes, the Force bonus lasts until the end of the turn, but not exactly for the reason your friend stated; the Terrain bonus was not considered Tactical at that time (during Jade) and whether it is or not is irrelevant to duration anyway. The ongoing effects of any action last until the end of the turn by default if not otherwise explicitly stated, and this is true in the case of Terrains in Jade Edition too.
