Rules Q&A
- Q: I've got a nice question bout Wholeness of Self. 1. Does the effect of the spell reduce to 0 all cards focused in a duel by the personality which is target?
A: Yes. Focus bonuses do not come from cards in that unit, so they are negated. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 22nd, 2003", 22 Jul 2003 - Q: My question is will Wholeness of Self prevent the force bonus granted by The Tactician trait? Is this bonus considered to come from a card in the unit, the personality in this case, or is it considered to be a rulebook effect and why does that let wholeness work or stop it. Or is the bonus for tactician considered to come from somewhere else?
A: The tactician bonus comes from the action in the rulebook, so Wholeness of Self will indeed negate it. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for June 11th - Part Two!", 12 Jun 2003 - Q: Will the Spell "Wholeness of Self" prevent the increases in Force and Chi that occur from focusing?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27-28 May 2003", 29 May 2003 - Q: Open: Bow this Shugenja to target a unit. For the rest of the turn, negate all Force and Chi modifiers on cards in that unit except those from cards in that unit.
The card says "for the rest of the turn". Does this mean that all future force and chi modifiers given that turn are negated as well, or are only current force and chi modifiers negated for the rest of the turn?
A: All current and future modifiers for the rest of the turn.
We are aware of the problem this causes with duels and are looking into the situation. Jeff Alexander, "post for 9 May 2003", 10 May 2003 - Q: also..... when it says "negate" all bonuses, does that mean that the personality get, for example -2 Force insead of +2 Force ?
A: "Negate" means "prevent the effects of" in L5R. [GE p. 45] It does not have a separate definition for stat modifiers. Jeff Alexander, "post for 9 May 2003", 10 May 2003
