- There are countless warrior arts in the Empire. The way of the sword is the most common, but far from the only one. Many find the spear a versatile and effective choice.

Rules Q&A
- Q: A) My opponent targets my paragon with a random strategy card e.g. Yarijutsu. I play Iron Will. Does the Yarijutsu go to the discard pile? B) My opponent targets my paragon with a random ability on a personality e.g. Bow a personality. I play Iron Will. Does the personalities ability count as used for the turn?
A: A) Yes. The normal discarding of the card is not a cost; it's just part of the sequence of playing a Strategy.
B) Yes. Again, not a cost.
The costs are just the game state changes to be made in constraints (such as bowing the Weapon, in Yarijutsu's case) and the Gold Cost in a Strategy's coin, if any. Brook Cunningham, "Iron Will + Strategy card", 2 Aug 2011 - Q: In this topic I asked about Justly Earned Victory because I was confused by the rule wiki.
What I found was that the FAQ said one thing but another part of the forum said another. Here's a link to the part of the Wiki that says that token bonuses are not negated by Shameful Injure and JEV.

A: Thanks for the catch.
One of the big advantages of a wiki is that everything has dates. Notice that the last time the MRP list was changed was August 2009. The FAQ is updated more often. In particular, the Justly Earned Victory entry was made in January 2010.
But I'll get the MRP thing removed, as it is out of date. Zen Faulkes, "Justly Earned Victory and Yarijutsu", 13 Sep 2010 - Q: Does Justly Earned Victory negate bonus/penalties from tokens created by actions?
A: See: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#Does_Justly ... bonuses.3F
"Q. Does Justly Earned Victory negate bonuses from tokens?
"A. Yes." And it goes on from there with more detail. Zen Faulkes, "Justly Earned Victory and Yarijutsu", 12 Sep 2010 - Q: Can Yarijutsu be used by a bowed personality with an unbowed attachment?
A: Yes. No rule prevents using an action on a card attached to a bowed Personality. See: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Physically_mark ... nd_unbowed Zen Faulkes, "Justly Earned Victory and Yarijutsu", 12 Sep 2010 - Q: http://l5rsearch.com/db/search.cgi?title=yarijutsu
Battle: Bow a target Weapon attached to your target Personality: Destroy a target enemy Personality with no Weapons, no Armor, and Force lower than the Focus Value plus Force bonus of your Weapon.
I believe this is a new wording for Celestial. Does this mean that, since the "target Personality" bit is before the colon (:), the personality performs Yarijutsu?
A: Yes, it is a new wording as of CE.
Yes, you are correct that the Personality targeted before the colon performs it. Brook Cunningham, "MRP Yarijutsu; Performing Personality", 15 Dec 2009 - Q: concerning: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=71016#p922646
It semmes that the answer is in contradiction with the explication that have been given explaining the erata of Kyuden Kotei. viewtopic.php?f=59&t=70472
precisely those parts:
Starting from 1 October 2008, Kyuden Kyotei will read (underlined text is new):
Your Market holdings in and out of play have the Legacy keyword. Political Reaction: Even if this Stronghold is bowed, if you control the Imperial Favor, before a Fate card out of play turns face-up from an action, trait, duel, or from being discarded: Give the card +1 Focus Value when it turns face-up.
(...)
It will no longer be useable: * when playing an Action card, because the turning face-up is from the rulebook, not the action itself; * when playing an attachment, again because the turning face-up is from the rulebook (sorry, there is no more Kyotei/Yarijutsu combo); * when taking an action on a face-down Ring or other card in the hand; new additions to the Comprehensive Rules (Using abilities on non-Action cards from the hand) clarify that the process of taking that action turns the card face-up before it is discarded or enters play.
bolded text is mine.
A: The Ring is turned face-up by the rulebook before you announce which ability you wish to use. See Using abilities on non-Action cards from the hand: Sometimes, through card text, an ability is able to be used from the hand even though the card it's on is not an Action card; for example, the "discard from hand" cost on a Ring's ability, or a Follower whose ability puts itself into play from the hand. When such an ability is used, the action must be legal to take in Good Faith (see Good Faith Rule). If it is, then the player turns the card face up in his or her hand, then announces and takes the action. If, when the action ends, the card is still in the hand, it turns face down again.
Thus, Kyuden Kyotei's Reaction may not be used. Alex Jones, "Kyuden Kyotei - Discarding a Ring", 26 Sep 2008 - Q: Battle: Bow one of your Weapons at the current battlefield: Destroy a target Personality opposing it with no Weapons, no Armor, and Force less than the Focus Value plus Force bonus of your Weapon.
Before your End Phase ends: If this Personality assigned this turn, gain 1 Honor and permanently give this card a +1F token; if he did not, lose 1 Honor.
A: The Blade of Hubris gives itself a +1F token, making its total Force Bonus go from +2 to +3. Its focus value is 4, so the total of its Focus Value plus Force bonus would be 7. Martin Lund, "Blade of Hubris + Yarijutsu", 3 Mar 2008
