Rules Q&A
- Q: Hello. I have a question that I know the answer to but I cannot word it right so it sounds logical. A person controls Yasuki Daiki and uses his action on another players personality, the player does not pay the gold or lose any honor. That player declares an attack assigning no one to attack. Then, he tries to move the person into a battlefield and attempts to justfy it by saying that he has no army there at the time, thus he is not assigning into an attacking army. I know this to be false logic, but I cannot seem to find the right way to explain it so it is clear for both sides of this argument. Thanks.
A: Per the CR entry for Army:
"When "army” is used to refer to a side of a battle that units are being moved to, assigned to, entering play in, or created in, this does not imply that an army must already exist there; the location can have no units to begin with, as an army is being brought into existence there." Jon Palmer, "Yasuki Daiki vs attacking army", 5 May 2012 - Q: (Emphasis mine)
A personality (for example, a Qalyar) with a Winter Sled attached is target by Yasuki Daiki's Open ability, and the controller of Qalyar with Winter Sled chooses neither paying gold nor losing honor. Therefore when its controller declares an attack later that turn, that Qalyar with Winter Sled may not be assigned. But Winter Sled's controller has a Winter card, and later he tries to move Qalyar.
Does Winter Sled's "will not negate this personality's movement" override Daiki's "will not move " effect? Since "will not move" is prevention but different from negation, the answer apparently would be no. Am I correct?
A: You are correct. "Will not move" is stronger than negation, and therefore Winter Sled will not allow the Personality to move. Jon Palmer, "Winter Sled Vs Yasuki Daiki", 24 Apr 2012 - Q: regarding this ruling viewtopic.php?f=59&t=95754
What happens when the honor loss in increased by, say, denounced on stage? Is it true that because the honor loss is *not two* the conditions of Yasuki Daiki is again unfulfilled and the personality cannot move or assign? There is no "at least" clause or anything of the sort, so I assume this to be the case as well.
A: If you lose more than 2 honour, you have still lost 2 honour, so the Personality may be assigned, etc.
See Special wording rules, Numbers of things: When something checks for the presence of a number of things that is two or more, the check is met by more than that number of those things. Alex Jones, "FL: Yasuki Daiki and honor loss reduction (FT)", 21 Jan 2012 - Q: I'm surprised I couldn't find this already. I would have thought this would have been asked under old seppuku rules (which I believe did the same thing)
If you have Yasuki Daiki target somebody and they choose to lose 2 honor, but then the honor loss is negated or reduced, does it still trigger? In a game I was playing against a forgotten temple and it came up, could he choose to lose 2 honor? it says 'if he did not lose 2 honor" not "if he did not choose to lose 2 honor", so I say that forgotten temple cannot reasonably pick that option (because he then would have not paid 4 gold or have lost 2 honor) but my friend felt that wasn't intended by design since you could blow up a deeds and words in response to ensure they can't assign to battles.
Just wanted to cross it by a rules team to make sure I was reading it right, or make sure I don't plan on that working if it comes up.
Text that matters: Yasuki Daiki:
Forgotten Temple:
Deeds and words [quote]Reaction: Before the resolution of an action during the Action Phase, destroy this card: Choose one of the Honor gains or losses from its effects. Reduce it to 0.[quote]
A: Thankfully the wording tells you exactly what happens if either of the first two options are interfered with. If he did not actually lose the 2 honor (due to Forgotten Temple's trait, Unimpeachable Name, or whatever), the Personality will not assign to and cannot move into attacking armies.
