Rules Q&A
- Q: I´m new in the list. The cards of the series: Storm over Matsu Palace (like Focus) and Beiden Pass ( like Sneak attack) Are legal cards in tournament (open and gold)? Somebody can help me with this? Thanks Gralha
A: Every card ever printed is legal in Open, though you need to know how the Most Recent Printing is worded. The place to check for those is http://l5r.alderac.com/rulings/ .
Only some of your cards will be Gold-legal. Most of them, especially the Personalities, will not be. Check the list at http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/ccg/gold_checklist.html and focus on the cards from the "GE" Edition to see which ones you have that might have been reprinted in Gold Edition, which is the latest base set. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 April 2003", 29 Apr 2003 - Q: c) This bleeds into story. Beiden Pass was destroyed during the Spirit Wars. In a typical (yet, at least literal this time) act of deus ex machina, Lord Sun opens up a new pass. Where is this pass -- is it near where Beiden Pass was? Do the Scorpion control it? Does it empty into the same non-Scorpion Province? Finally, what is the name of this pass?
A: Forwarded to the Story Team, but it's probably Seikitsu Pass, joining L1 and Sc1 on the Strategic map. This would make Sc1 the only castle Province adjacent to two enemy castle Provinces. Jeff Alexander, "post for 19 March 2002", 20 Mar 2002 - Q: I have a question about the Siege deck territories. Beiden Pass lists a number of abilities, are they each usable equal to the rank of the players (potentially negating fear 3+ times, and negating range 3+ times on the same turn), or I could only pick and chose to use them equal to the rank of the player. The same applies to Otosan Uchi.
A: Beiden Pass states, "The Yogo Junzo player has the following abilities which may be used [rank] times per turn total (but still only once per turn each)"
There are 5 abilities on Beiden Pass: if there are 3 Rokugani players, the Yogo Junzo player may use 3 of them per turn, but since none of them is Repeatable he or she may not use each one more than once per turn.
Otosan Uchi states, "The Yogo Junzo player may use abilities on this Territory [rank] times total (usable only at this Territory's battlefield)."
There are 4 abilities on Otosan Uchi: if there are 3 Rokugani players, the Yogo Junzo player may take 3 actions from them. However, since - unlike Beiden Pass - each is Repeatable, he or she may take those 3 actions from the same ability, or 2 from one ability and 1 from another, or all 3 from different abilities. Alex Jones, "Beiden Pass and Otosan Uchi", 7 Aug 2015 - Q: 1. May you attach fortifications (via Kaui Engineers) on a province where Second Battle of Beiden Pass has resolved?
2. What will happen to a province that has previously attached fortifications or regions once Second Battle of Beiden Pass resolves? Will they be discarded?
A: The Province can still attach Fortifications (and Regions) as these are not in the Province. Alex Jones, "Second Battle of Beiden Pass and Kaiu Engineers", 4 Aug 2014
